I'd put a new roof panel in that and keep it orange tho.
Yup.

Changing the colour when you have still have the AVO build plates is a route to killing any value other than parts......and it's Sebring Red, not orange wink

I'd had high hopes for this program. The presenters are useless.

Liking this so far, with the car history, meeting up with people and having a go at the driving, it's a bit like the Idris Elba King of Speed programmes. The rebuild bit could get, erm, interesting later if it's an 8 week deadline hehe

So with the car that rusty is it fair to say they have paid 8k for the VIN plates and a V5?

No, because it's things like the inner skin in places that make it a genuine mexico, what makes it worth the money over other mk2 shells.

Nicked from PF..

Genuine RS models have reinforced strut tops.
Genuine RS Mexico would originally have had a black back panel where the rear number plate sits.

The genuine Mexico was only built between Jan 1976 & September 1978.

It should have axle location rods fitted on each side of the car locating the axle to the bodywork.

Check that the wheels are the correct age & type for the car if fitted with 4 spokes.

Genuine RS Mexicos should be fitted with chassis plates with the words GCAT stamped on the VIN plate & logbook

Are we supposed to believe that he had anything to do with restoring that Escort then?

No more than you should believe he "had a mate who had heard of someone with one for sale" as opposed to the team of researchers working on sourcing cars for the programme.
