That's very 'Channel 5', isn't it? Fabricated arguments and drama.
Worst of all has to be that bloody Eddie Stobart one they do...

I think the whole 'enforced deadline' and 'unforeseen crisis' is something copied from the Discovery Channel format, that so many of these types of programs ape nowadays. I think Classic Car Rescue, with Bernie and Mario, is probably the worst offender. They have a knack for picking the least desirable examples of whichever classic is getting their attention. (automatic E type with a 70's aftermarket sunroof?!) Mind you, they probably have just as little real input into the restorations as these two do.

Glenister comes across as a bit of a nob in this. Seems like he really can't be arsed but his agent thinks it's a great idea.
Bored and sarcastic last night... bloke's LR collection was "thrilling" etc!

Presumably he was offered the job to fit in with his Gene Hunt persona.

He does come across very badly, either because as a thespian he feels he shouldn't have to lower himself to doing C5 documentaries & voiceovers, or he has taken a conscious decision to differentiate himself from other presenters by being uninterested & dismissive of the whole point of the programmec...

Certainly an unusual approach, knowing nothing about the subject is no barrier to a career as a presenter but his agent will be earning his 15% if he gets him more presenting work after this....

Is that the old Thatcham test site, that they use for the group driving etc segments?
The time trial was held there. It's a pretty difficult course and run by 4x4withoutaclub. I take my S3 up there every couple of months and normally end up breaking something!

Yep, same here. It did look fantastic in the end.

He's a ''valuable commodity'' evidently.

Pretty decent series so far. I don't get the complaints myself...it's just entertainment. Enjoyed the build up and background info on the LR but there is only so much you can do in a given time slot. Thought it was apt that the meeting with all the beards was in the pissing rain, seemed fitting for the car smile

Exactly what I thought. He reminds me of a 'Colin Hunt' type bloke I work with who puts on "funny" voices for different situations. He's an otherwise nice bloke, but because of this is generally regarded as a bit of a tool.

Landy's aren't really my thing, but I loved what they did with it, and for that I'm enjoying the show, pretentious presentation apart.

Agree with all of this, like the format and Glenister doesn't take himself too seriously. That Landie should last another 50 years.

How many of us have had that "Oh S**t, I should have asked for more!" feeling as the seller during the slight pause? laugh

An frustrating programme IMO. It could have done with a reduction in the tedious footage of Glenister driving places in his Disco and then doing the LR activities with a full-on sneery attitude and a lot more coverage of the actual restoration. But as others have said the oily bits that interest me would never make prime time telly any way. A total 'gloss over' of any of the technical aspects of the rebuild was however unforgivable, even to the extent that air time was given to Glenister's 'not listening... too nerdy' voice-over reaction madmad to the restoration guy's explanation of the engine rebuild. Another example of current TV producers feeling it necessary to dumb things down as soon as they get even a little bit technically challenging (.... a crap attitude made fashionable by Clarkson I suppose).

I watched the first, Escort episode and found Glenister's growly schtick so annoying, I'm not watching any more.

I did read somewhere that the show was going to be called Life on Cars but it had be changed, hence why he was presenter.

I assume there is going to be a show at the end showing the vehicles all being auctioned, because they show the auctions at the start, but they have not mentioned anything in each show, about how much it actually cost to restore it and the profit etc..

I enjoy it anyway, much better that the crap on channel 5 tonight (even though I watch it for the cars...) and equalish to wheeler dealers

I agree with everyone else - Glenister's sarcasm was beyond grating last night. Other than that, I enjoyed the program although I would personally prefer more of a documented restoration and less of the "here are some marque fanatics" stuff. Perhaps they should do a longer edit with more restoration in - though I guess that would require expensive camera crew time to be spent with the restoration team.

Overall, enjoyable but Glenister's lack of interest is what comes out of the presentation. The restoration job looked pretty good to me (though I know bugger all about it) but I can see the arguments for keeping it more original.

The original seller obviously woefully undersold it, it must have been the best condition un-restored S1 in existence!

Is that chassis damage usual? What would cause it (to break both sides seems excessive, unless someone loaded something optimistically massive onto one end)?

Quick continuity gripe - Glenister is seen 'outside' driving a Discovery, but from inside it's morphed into a Ford S-Max or Galaxy...

I caught about 10 minutes of this and turned over because of exactly that. Seemed really strange to have a presenter who was so disinterested. I assumed he was a performance car nut and not in landrovers, which would be fair enough, but I assume from the rest of the thread he's like that in other episodes? shame because a enthusiastic/interested presenter, even if they don't know much, is what makes programmes like that.
