Traced another one...

I love the sort of long-span dramas that follow a person or family's life over time, often based on novels, and have often wondered about one I liked from many years ago. Tonight, from a reference to "Our Friends from The North" (itself utterly brilliant) I got it: "In a Land of Plenty".

Not sure if it is still available, but will check later.

I remember loving the score, as well as the storyline

'Band of Brothers' if you haven't already seen it.
No love for BoB? frown
I voted for BoB on Page 1smile

Definitely a couple of dusty-eye moments when watching it.

Have I heard about them making a 3rd one or is that just wishful thinking?
Yep, Masters of the Air smile

Ooh fantastic - thanks for the linksmile
Loved BoB but didn't really get in to Pacific in the same way and never even finished watching it. Probably should give it another try but I don't think I got the characters in the same way as I did in BoB. Here's hoping Masters of the Air is up to BoB standards.

Agree with the likes of BSG (Battlestar Galacica) - make sure it's the new one, not the camp '80's one.

Plus Band of Brothers is excellent.

Very surprised no-one has mentioned The Walking Dead (unless I missed it).

Apart from all the usual:

BB
Wire
Shield (ignore the pilot, it's crap)
Sopranos
Dexter
True Detective
etc...

I'd add Early Doors. Very funny.

Our Friends In The North - epic. Adapted from a Royal Shakespeare Company performance too.

Starring Gina McKee, Christopher Ecclestone, Mark Strong and Daniel Craig as the lead characters - some line up. It's dated now (20 years old) but still a good piece of history re-told.

Pacific was definitely not as good and I'm not sure why - characters probably like you say. Everything else was excellent but it just lacked something BoB had. I wouldn't rush to watch it again whereas I've watched BoB 3 times now and never got bored.

I'd also suggest The Office as a must see.
