I actually think the cast looks good. My only hope is that they don't do a "Starskey & Hutch" on it, and make a "stupid" remake aimed at today's ADHD-afflicted. Or worse - roughen it up to appeal to action-film-lovers. Instead, if they take the time to script it well, instil a few well-chosen catch-phrases, and honour the originals, I'd pay to watch it.

The story will see Zeta Jones play a glamorous journalist sent to report on the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard before MI5 discovers that there is a German spy in the fictional British town.
A bit too jazzed up for DA I think.

That's the curious thing about the dog in Dad's Army.

In a re-imagining of Dad's Army, the little town of Walmington-On-Sea, (Nebraska) is guarded by a stalwart troop of ex-cons commanded by Capt. Maine-Wearing III (G. Clooney), Aided by his streetwise and cocky Sergeant Wilson, (Brad Pitt), and the fearless but as yet untested Corporal Jones, (Ice-T).

Other platoon members include serial womaniser Pike (Woody Allen), local undertaker and token dour Scot Frazer, (Scottie from Star Trek), Elderly Gentleman's outfitter and oft quoter of line "May I be excused", Godfrey, (Macaulay Culkin), and the Homeland Security (formerly ARP) warden Hodges is played by Vin Diesel.

It's a surefire hit.

So they're doing precisely what we all excepted, and are casting actors to play actors playing a role.
Gonna be shoite.
Oh dear....what a mistaka da makka.

After saying that...erm, that is actually a fracking stella cast; Nighty, Gambon, Stephens...fk, these are brilliant actors who could easily do an impression of the originals...or do their own thing.
It's all in the presentation though, still looking quite st overall. But at least they have top drawer actors to lift the writing.

They're also remaking "The Madness of King George", as seen through the eyes of his son, George IV.

OK, then it has to be Groundskeeper Willie...

The remake does have a great cast, I hope the scriptwriter can step up to the mark.

Or Simon Pegg with a dodgy accent

TBF that is a LOT of acting talent, just depends on how the script is & if they pander to the dumbed down audiences of today

The only remake I've seen work recently was The A-Team.

Casting made for their ability to play the characters and not their celebrity status, and a story kept faithful to the original series with some good twists on the original.

Also explains how B.A. Baracus develops his fear of flying which was well done.

This was the exception though and I think Dad's Army is just not meant for the big screen. They should leave it rest as a classic series, and don't sully its good name.

I came away from the first viewing a bit let down, which might explain the relatively negative critical reviews it had at the time, but I've come to really love that film now. I must have watched it 5 or 6 times since release and enjoy it more and more.

Not precisely an all action character though is he? He is a disembodied voice in the second one...

Actually, I think it has already been re-made and adapted to US tastes, only they changed the name to 'The Monuments Men' ...at least that's what I thought when I watched it.

The cast list for DA is good. That much is a positive. Not convinced by the writing or directing talent, but we can only hope...
