Not sure about this one. The original cast defined the characters.
I guess the challenge will be bringing the characters to life without simply copying Lowe, Le Mesurier et al. Bill Nighy is in the frame as Sgt Wilson which makes sense, but if Russell Brand turns up as Pte Frazer it'll confirm my suspicions that this is going to be a bit ropey. Not sure who else is involved yet. Off the top of my head I reckon Simon Pegg could make a good Pte Pike.
Don't tell him your name Pike

It is just a classic that I don't think can be equaled. There may be many though who haven't watched the original and it may be really good. It's a tough shout for those giving it a go.

Are we so uncreative today that everything from Robocop to Point Break and now Dad's Army needs to be remade. Some things are timeless and should be left as they are...Dad's Army is one of them. NO, NO, NO!

Gah! Pity Corporal Jones and his bayonet aren't still around to show them the error of their ways.

How about (medical insurance and availability for filming dependent) just for fun.

Sean Connery to play Pte Frazier.
Anthony Hopkins to play Pte Cheeseman.
Roger Moore as Pte Godfrey.
Michael Caine as Pte Walker
Michael Gambon as Cpl Jones.
Leslie Philips as Sgt Wilson.
Rowan Atkinson as Cpt Mainwaring (he has gone grey and is the right age now)

Plus someone who looks younger than they are to play Pike, Daniel Radcliffe?

In for a penny and all that.

Rob Brydon as the Welsh one, one line every now and then for continuity.
Steve Coogan as Pike?

"A big screen version of classic TV sitcom Dad's Army is to be made, according to reports."
Reports?
Hmmmmm.
I hope these reports are true 'in a sense'...in a completely untrue and made-up sense.

The previous Dad's Army movie was a bit disappointing compared to the series, although the line "will you get your hands off my privates" makes it all worth while.

A re-make is 99% guaranteed to be rubbish

You can bet that ahole Corden will have a part in it somewhere.

Personally I think it should be left alone. The original cast made the programme what it was.
I would be like Columbo without Peter Falk.

Any suggestion of Russell Brand messing about with dear old Dad's Army will see me with cold hot steel, determining whether he does, or does not, like it up him...

Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie as HQ staff.
