A detail which didn't ring true for me:

Between the young policewoman being murdered and Sarah Lancashire reaching the crime scene, quite a long time had passed - it was light at first, but dark by the time SL arrived. And yet apparently not one single vehicle had driven along that road, in either direction: because if there had been any, then their drivers would deffo have stopped to see what had happened and waited for the police to arrive - and yet there was nobody there.

By the same token, when Tommy Lee Royce was slowly committing the murder, he seemed oblivious to the fact that cars could have come past at any moment.

Ah, right, thanks for that. I'd seen the tower in the background of some shots and had wondered whether it was the Peel Monument, above Ramsbottom.

BTW I always find the village name 'Mankinoles' (next door to Lumbutts) puerilely amusing.biggrin

I think when they radioed in the incident they did refer to it as an isolated road.

There are places round there where they stand slack jawed in amazement if a car goes past, so it's quite possible that nothing passed the scene.

And yet in another view it appeared to have working streetlamps...unless I'm confused.

I'm enjoying it - the threads that are being pulled together and all that grey lines stuff...

Plus nice to see Alun Armstrong's son is a chip off the old block (Ashley) and another outing for Tinita Tikarams' brother (only ever saw him in This Life before).

So is the grandson deffo the offspring of the murderous rapist?
I thought they looked similar! Lol.
The scene with the young WPC was bloody horrible the most shocked I have been at the tv for a while. Caught me off guard.
I want the tommy lee character to meet a grisly end.

I think it has been quite dark throughout but done in a very watchable way so that it is lighthearted in places and then shocking on others. It is suggestive rather than descriptive - in a manner akin to reading a good book; what you don't actually see is created in your own head so even more shocking.

In this weeks instalment I knew what was going to happen in the beginning - but at the same time I think it was almost so obvious that subconsciously I thought nothing may happen; one of the most shocking pieces of television I have seen - it was truly evil. The lack of depth to the ex-con makes him even more harrowing.

I think all the characters are well played; very diverse. Some simple yet highly effective cinematography being employed too; I'm enjoying it ..... alot!

Wow.....just wow.

I hope she isn't dead. Because when this 6 parter is over, this has the makings of a superb ongoing police drama, along the lines of Prime Suspect.

The guy who plays Tommy Lee Royce is doing a fine job, it's a long time since I've hated a character so much. Really want him to die an agonising death.

And Sarah Lancashire, just brilliant. But she always has been, even back as Curly's girlfriend on Corrie.

Very good but sloppy detailing to save time, kidnap interview in the cafe? Further interview with Nev same, tommy Lees mum didn't take long to say they have a doggy in the feller etc - but a great watch.

Not Very Happy Valley.

Doubt she's dead, two further episodes plus plenty of scope for further series..... Drugs, bent cops, councillors etc.

Last weeks death was more shocking for me though.
