Didn't pan out the way I thought it would.
Thought the big finish would be with the psycho school teacher doing something extreme and not centered on the murdering copper, so that was a good twist.
And Tommy got the lads letter to keep him wound up for the next series plus of course moaning mertle is still at liberty.
Not as good as series 1 but not bad.
It wasn't as brutal as Series 1, but it's still one of the best drama series on the telly. I was expecting the teacher to properly kick-off, kidnap the son or petrol-bomb the house in the middle of the night type of thing. The despair from the Detective was well played out too, a man who'd lost everything.

I didn't understand the relevance of the other women who had been making the Prison visits. All Tommy's past has been related to Happy Valley so why groom other women from other regions. Grooming the teacher to make contact with his son is understandable (?) but why the others? It wasn't needed for the plot unless there was going to be a reaction.

Also, at what point did the Police get the full story from the Mother about her Sons murdering ways in enough detail to know that he didn't kill Vicky Flemming. The mother was full of booze and drugs and away to Hospital, but the Police at the house already knew he'd admitted to 4 murders but not the 4th, and that he had killed the 5th victim out of anger about the copycat killing. Had she made a miraculous recovery in the ambulance.

Regardless, it was great telly thumbup

Hope so too.

She seemed keen but didn't have the time to commit to another series immediately.

I watched the first series and wanted to watch S2 but wasn't able to do so from the start. No problem, that's what iPlayer is for, right? Except Auntie has removed S2Ep1 mad And for all I know, Ep2 now as well.

Anywhere else I can find this to watch?

It was done so she could prove to the bespeckled teacher the truth as she was having problems accepting it.
When hit with those facts she realised she'd been had.

Firstly, the woman he groomed wasn't a teacher. Her dead sister was the teacher. She took her identity.
I think psychotic murderers in jail get loads of letters from sad / deranged women wanting to be their friend. He probably would entice as many as possible into his web of deceit, so if one failed in their mission, another could be sent in.

I know she wasn't a teacher, I was just struggling to spell pharmacist...

The point I was making is that if there wasn't going to be a reaction to the news about the other women, why use the limited screen time to bring it up. It didn't matter to the story whether she believed Tommy or not.

Because without that, there was always the remote chance that TLR had actually fallen in love with this soppy woman and they were properly engaged. So they had to make it completely clear that he was still a heartless prick.

At first I thought the same as you.

But later the Chief DI said that the farmer woman told Cath Cawood while she was waiting for the ambulance.

Of course that's only what they've told us she said ...................

I rented Series one a few weeks ago, hastily watched them all in around a week and caught up with all series two up to 2 weeks ago then watched "live"

I don't know why i never watched the first series years? ago, its a good watch and better for me as its all filmed nearby and in some instances just down the road! biggrin

That confession scene was actually shown in the doorway of the farmhouse whist Sgt Cawood was trying to keep the mother awake/alive.

Tell me someone else saw it too....

Very Poor policing in my opinion.

Whilst the DC was fannying about on the bridge, telling PC Cawood how she should be doing her job, smile a bobby should have run to someone's back garden and brought on of those kids big 10ft trampolines for the cop to bounce on when he fell off...biggrin

Also, the story about "Tommy" grooming three other women and being engaged to them was nonsense, why would he?

Regarding another series, you have to remember that to make it would be a logistical nightmare...all the actors will be off doing other things, (Theatre etc), so you have to bring them back together all at the same time....hard to do.

James Norton will now be in incredibly high demand, although I bet the total time he spent on this last series was no more than fifteen minutes out of the six hours.

I didn't really like Sarah Lancashire (Corries Raquel) much before, but she has been fantastic in this and also Last Tango in Halifax....she has a new fan.

They managed it for Series 2?

Agreed about Norton though, isn't one of the many actor being touted as the "new Bond"?

I'd never seen him before Series 1, but he's now done two series of Grantchester, this series of Happy Valley, and he was in War and Peace as well. Problem is, I always expect him to be a nutter whatever he is in.

Everyday a new hunky chap seems to be the new Bond. I'm surprised half of PH aren't on the shortlist. hehe

Just watched it over lunch - top telly!

I was hoping the 'showy' councillor from S1 would re-appear (he was let off with a stern word about summat?) but that's a dead line of enquiry.

The nature/nurture debate was well done - the abused farmer woman offing her bd son, our heorine watching her grandson closely, the nutter in clink smiling at the letter...all good psy-ops stuff.

Now that Trapped has finished, and this, Night Manager is nearly gone...only House of Cards still to do...sobs...

No,.... they're too powerfully built to fit in the tuxedo..

Anyhow, Ph'ers wouldn't want to take large pay cut......
