It’s interesting that some cast members were watching it last night as viewers not knowing whether their roles had made the ‘finale’ due to different endings being filmed and it all being kept under wraps.
Are we absolutely sure about that?I didn't understand why they didn't charge the PE teacher with his wife's murder? The blackmail charge was unrelated.
And Sgt Cawood holding back her discoveries about the pharmacist, revealing such critical info just minutes before signing off on her last day and only after the inspector mentioned Hepworth wasn't to be charged for the murder, was implausible to say the least.
A rushed and unsatisfying closure to that subplot, slightly spoiling what was otherwise a spectacular finale.

I think springing him and smuggling him to Spain was a reward for him keeping his mouth shut about a gangland killing. But when Darius realised he was going to cause further trouble he decided to do away with him.
Yes true, in the previous ep. the fella did plead with TLR not to exact revenge on a copper once he got his freedom.
However the shady lady who fixed the landrover secretly fitted a bomb, a bomb
that would explode if it went over 50 mph,
I feel we can all agree Cath's in no danger.

On the evidence the police actually had, the PE teacher was bang to rights for his wife’s murder. Sgt Cawood pointed the way for the pharmacist’s dodgy drug dealing which would have finished his career, but actually nailing him for the murder? Because he lived up the road from the Hepworths?
That’d be a big stretch, but we’ll never know
Rather a lot of cameo roles this series, Catherine's ex, Nevison, Catherine's son, all played minimal roles, Anne Gallagher might have at least appeared when the rest of the police turned up.
And then Darius never came into the final episode either.
Could maybe have done with one more episode to tie up all the sub plots, before the TLR inferno.

I think they could have run another episode. It seemed like they had an episode tally to hit. And then Darius never came into the final episode either.

Unlike netflix series that have the world's laziest editing to stretch out sparse material HB seemed to be in a rush...

He had a cast iron alibi I expect. He was at school with numerous witnesses.Sgt Cawood pointed the way for the pharmacist’s dodgy drug dealing which would have finished his career, but actually nailing him for the murder? Because he lived up the road from the Hepworths?

Excellent last episode. Made it mostly about TLR and Catherine.

The chemist's alibi is maybe shaky, his DNA found on her body, CCTV or neighbours testifying to him leaving or entering the murder house, his involvement in drug criminality, it's not quite a slam dunk..
I wonder if both men could be charged and a jury decide which one is more guilty, and if the jury is locked then a Dance Off or Penalties.

The police didn't have a time of death, they had a window from the evening before when the girls last saw her to the next day when the body was discovered so he wasn't at school during all of that time.Punctilio said:
