Just watched the Alfa Spider episode, blimey what a mess when it came out of the chemical bath. Did some googling and according to the owner's club the resto cost £40k. Some nice pics here:

I always wondered why the Morgan and Alfa were subcontracted as I noticed the different workshops, doubt Fuzz did any real work on these.http://www.longmyndservicestation.co.uk/classics/c...
Maybe time constraints
If you look at the TV series "An MG is born" you can see what it looks like to follow a restoration in a bit more detail. Ten hours of blokes in a shed drinking tea with a little bit of hammering.

Understandably it was a bit niche. What's really nice about Car SOS is that they worked out how to meld a little bit of men stood in a shed drinking tea with dusty human interest stories. That means that people who are not all that interested in the minutae of restoration will still watch, meaning that the show gets a decent audience.

I'm watching repeats so a bit behind the times. In the Corvette episode, Tim claimed to be an American muscle car nut. He described the C3 as the third generation Stingray (wrong) and attempted to blag a discount by claiming he could identify the Corvette among 4 V8 cars by the engine sound only.
Getting 3 out of the 4 spot on he proudly announced the last guess as "a Big-block Corvette". It was a small block! They can't even get the cheating right.
He had of course just walked past the same 4 cars parked outside and proudly named them for the camera before going inside.

If think I must be the only one here who quite likes the Tim bits. I find them mildly amusing.
The people who don't are in a minority otherwise they wouldn't do it, you can't judge an entire audience from 5 blokes on some forum. He didn't get very far with a big discount from the Dutch guy though, he was having none of it!The owner of the Flavia didn't come out of that too well IMO, cills riveted on, bits of wood, filled with filler foam and wheel arches made from plastic folders? Dear me, I wondered if he was bodging it up to sell it on before being stopped.
The Tim parts are really just not necessary.
I'm surprised some of the places go along with it. The wheel refurb centre were flat out but the manager had time to go through the process whilst 4 of his employees dicked about trying to get an egg out of a pissing jar?
He could have just got a nice set of pro race alloys for the same cash instead and not made the car look quite as chav.

Free publicity, worth way more than the stuff they end up either discounting or giving away. skinny said:

Yeah, not really busy though. That's the thing, obviously all the "we're too busy" and "no chance till next month" and having to creep into someones unit without them seeing him is all the made-up bit, and it's the fact that it's so obviously staged to "add drama" that makes it annoying. It's just what turns it from a niche thing like the Mark Evans series (where the closest it got to prime time was on Quest at tea-time with probably a few hundred watching, so not a big draw to advertisers) into something that can go at 9pm on a relatively mainstream channel. princealbert23 said:

Don't believe that at all. Remember how those 5 blokes hated SIARPC and what happened to that section once they had the chance. miniman said:
Just watched the Range Rover episode. Less "Car SOS" and more "fetch some rust over to Rimmer Bros and replace 99% of it then ruin the suspension with an air ride kit".
Was it Rimmers? I thought the strategic use of Britpart cardboard as wing protectors meant it was them, though I thought they might have given them a bit more of a plug, along the lines of the namecheck they gave the veneering guys.Tim was less annoying this time, actually spent long enough watching them doing the veneer work to make it interesting. The scene where he told Fuzz about wanting air suspension was hammy at best, though.
I figured it was Britpart too from the cardboard.

The RR was a runner with a new looking alternator at the beginning and it sounded like she was driving it until very recently, not the usual left for many years thing. The story didn't quite ring with me but she appeared genuinely happy. My Mum would react similarly if we got her Morris 8 back and restored.
For me the best was seeing how well a Rangie can be put back together. More info on the work carried out and less "blagging" was better too. I liked the tooling about in the original model too.

Looking at the MOT history it's been tested every year but not covered much miles.
Oh and it was tested today having failed yesterday! Strange that the son used the ruse that it had gone to have an engine oil leak fixed and that's seemingly the only thing that they didn't look at.
