In tonight's episode, what has that aging blonde got to do with Ken & Deirdre? I seem to remember she was someone's mother at The Rovers, but can't remember much more about her.
She was Shelly Unwin's mother, and worked behind the bar of the Rovers between 2003 and 2006, and nearly married Fred Elliot, (I said Fred Elliot.)

She also appeared in the Corrie panto rolleyes in 2005...

And I liked the reference to her playing of the harmonica. I'd forgotten about that, although the OP will probably know more.

"The stresses and strains of Peter's upcoming murder trial prove too much for Deirdre and, in a moment of madness, she takes her anger out on the dessert throwing it at the wall. The blow-up is enough for Ken (William Roache) to suggest that Deirdre gets out of Weatherfield to pay a visit to her friend Bev (the mother of former Corrie resident Shelley Unwin)."

btw:- You can catch up on any Corrie you missed on YouTube...(Just type in the date)

Thanks Wacky. Just the sort of random cameo we come to expect in Corrie. Love it.

Her biggest claim to fame as an actress is that she is the first person to speak in the very first episode of One Foot In The Grave.

I'm not up for an argument but I would have thought she would have been better known for Victoria Wood on Tv???

Oh, I agree, she isn't famous for being the 1st person to speak in OFITG. But it's just a cool thing to have done.

Claim to fame was probably the wrong phrase.

She did have a great role as the TV announcer in that, her classic line being
'We are sorry to our viewers in the North - it must be awful for you'.

Excellent references to Deirdre's stuffed marrow dish. Maria suggesting that they make some for Ken because Deirdre had told her that it was Ken's favourite laugh.

Spookily enough, here in Ulster the second advert in the break was for Santander and featured a large marrow.

Tracey - "Robert, this is my ex-husband Steve. Steve, this is my ex-husband Robert".
Robert - "It's a small world."
Steve - "Yes, but I wouldn't like to hoover it!"

Classic!

I thought I recognised him! Has he stopped doing the economic reports on the BBC News?

Lots of references to people and events of the past in tonight's episode - it had me racking my memory, although I'm sure the OP will remember everything. The Barlow family squabble was poor in acting and content.

Norris about Ken and Deirdre's relationship - " It was on and off more times than the light in Beth Tinker's fridge." An old chestnut, but still a good 'un.
