Disagree about next week- as a 30 odd year addict I believe that the Street excels when nothing much happens; it's then that its brilliance at characterisation shines . It is often poor on plot and familiar characters struggle in unfamiliar surroundings. As I said the other day- place a scene outside the confines of the Street and it flounders. Even a hospital scene clunks and the church scenes are invariably terrible - and certainly not written by anybody familiar with either. They can't even get Billy right - I have known plenty of priests and doctors and the portrayals are woefully bad.

No- what is best is stuff like Steve and Lloyd riffing about nothing much at all (such as Steve talking about Emmylou Harris or - really - about the weird sound a Peugeot V10 made in a Jordan (I am not making this up ! )) or Fred Elliiot's immortal line ' Shall we be heroes Maureen..?' . I said shall we..'

I thought Fred Elliott's immortal line was "I say Ashley, pass us that bunch of sausages"....must have missed the other one...

But yes, I take your point, we can't have high drama every week, otherwise it wouldn't ring true, nevertheless I'm dying to see how the Callum storyline unfolds....

Just catching up with last weeks episodes and great use of subtle music in t'Rovers when Jenny was telling Johnnie about learning to use the machine and trying to use his contacts to find her work at another factory - with Eagles song "Lyin' Eyes" in the background.....!
eta - also, "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac playing when Carla and Nick were talking about moving to Devon, too.....

I agree 100% with the Steve/Lloyd chitchat - I really, really miss it. It could sometimes be almost surreal. How the heck the scriptwriters came up with some of it is beyond comprehension. Eastenders it was not.

Tim is a good character but not up to scratch as a Lloyd substitute.

Spotted similar recently, someone in the salon (Maria?) making up a name on the spot and said 'Anastasia', as an Anastasia track was playing. It seems related background music is an ongoing theme for the writers......

I don't think it was the brain injury kicking the Surveyor out. He was asking for it.

He did not seem to be properly equipped for the job I felt anyway....

The show desperately needs a Stan and Hilda type pairing. Every now and then Tim and Sally show glimmers of it, but thinking about it, Lloyd and Steve were building that type of relationship beautifully.

My all time favourite character was Eddie Yates (Geoffrey Hughes)...and this scene was a classic.

Eddie offered to get Annie Walker some "very exclusive" carpet with her initials featured throughout,....all was well, until Mrs Walker found out it came out of a bingo hall.....biggrin

On just the once at 9pm tonight, that must be why we had that extra one shoved in last week.

Did you catch last night's show? I didn't realise it was on. Only noticed it in the planner this morning when going for Thrones...

Everything this week has to give way for the mighty Simon "Don't you know who I am?" Cowell. Mr Big in the entertainment world so ITV have to kow-tow. Clever man, but I loathe him with a vengeance.

Not a great deal happened in last night's (Sunday's) episode, but Tracy was up to her usual tricks...paid off though, to the tune of 900 quid.

What a cow, I can't believe anyone (in real life) would be as bhy as her.... I must have lived a sheltered life...smile

Only one episode tonight folks, later on.

I've got the box set to record them all otherwise I would have missed a few lately, I walked past it last night and said to the OH 'I wonder what that's recording?' then watched it later on.

As an aside, are there any ladies contributing to this thread? I don't think there are.... scratchchin

My retirement "job" is delivering for my local Interflora. Preston's petals is typical "soap" - there's no way on earth those bouquets and buttonholes could have been made in that time. On top of which, although there was mention of traffic jams, why couldn't the original florist just turn the van round and drive back? It was only at Crewe.

Well, Crewe to "Weatherfield" is what?...an hour tops....perhaps the driver didn't have a mobile phone with him...smile

£900 for a few bunches of flowers, ridiculous.....Johnny should have gone to Asda, two quid a bunch, Carla would never have known the difference after a few bevvies.....drunk

That'll be it! What delivery driver would bother with a mobile phone? biggrin

I don't know what my boss charges, but I think £900 would cover more than just the bouquets and corsages - I reckon it would include the church decoration and flowers on the reception tables. Hey ho.

BTW Tyrone put the Woodie through its MOT and got soot in his eye from the exhaust. How come? What sort of MOT prep is that? I reckon he'd been peeping through Eva's bathroom door and she'd caught him at it.....

I hope some of this year's brides who've booked a mini-Bentley were watching. THAT'S what it's supposed to look like, not some crappy American Tupperware.

Aren't venues supposed to have a licence to hold weddings? Would a backstreet wine bar in Weatherfield really have such a licence granted?

I liked the introduction by the minister - he mentioned "trust" and Carla immediately decides to come clean. Johnny's false imprisonment was a waste of time.
