I can't really see what anyone sees in Maria, scratchchin she's fairly plain, has zero personality, just a little girl really...very wooden.

Now Eva, she has a bubbly personality, massive norks and is thick as two short planks.

What's not to like?

Only time will tell whether Nick is right in his assumption, or whether Peter has run away from an angry husband in Portsmouth. Such are the complexities of soap scripts.

First we had Sarah, then Fay, so the new storyline isn't exactly an eye-opener. However, because it's Mary it's so poignant. Bless her. I'd like to think we're going to see a different side to Norris, but I'm not holding my breath. It'd be a nice idea though - showing real support and sympathy for his friend instead of being so judgemental and interfering.

it's the other way round for me ... Eva gets on my nerves and I think Maria is much better looking ... Eva's mazzoomers are far too big

Each to his own, as they say. I must say Eva doesn't know how to hold a knife and fork properly. That would annoy me so much I'd want to wrestle her to the ground and writhe around for a few hours.

Lovely acting from Mary - and especially Norris. Unlike Caz, Maria and others too many to list Norris juts never stops acting , his reaction shots are superb and he is never not immersed in his role . Gemma can do just the same.Cf Caz who stands there like a plank, motionless and expressionless , then gets her cue, screws up her face to show emotion and says the lines as though reading them for the first time.

That's a problem with the present Corrie cast - there are a few very good actors, quite possibly wasted in a soap, and a lot of very mediocre ones , with a smattering of the abysmal. I would place Daniel and Aidan in the "Caz category".

None of which stops me from enjoying the show, I hasten to add. Lots of good stuff going on - too much IMO because the writers are having to spread the plots thinly, and we have gaps of 2 or 3 episodes before we return to something which is actually quite important. The main threads at the moment are Daniel/Denise and Mary's shocker, but behind the scenes is unfinished business - the Ken/Audrey romance, Peter and his reasons for leaving Portsmouth, Adam and his dodgy dealings, and this is just the occupants of No.1! I think sometimes the writers get carried away with trying to cover as many social issues as possible in the shortest time.

What happened to Ty's money problems? (Where do these lodgers all sleep?) Is Dev aware the kids are stealing scratchcards? Are the police investigating the flat scam? How's Anna's recuperation progressing? What about Fay's dodgy boyfriend? Are Gary and Sarah actually dating yet? Is David going to be investigated for the accident? As someone else pointed out- what about Sinead's compo? Why hasn't Carla been in touch with Roy about his nuptials?

Sorry. The writers have created too many sub-plots and can't cover them in the scheduling. Ease off, me buckos - an old man like myself can't remember it all.

I was going to post this morning about the wonderful acting in the last scene featuring Norris and Mary, first class, but Coppice beat me to it.

Norris might be a busy body, but underneath all that there's a heart hiding there somewhere.

He deserves to find his soul mate after being married to that bh Angela, who, by all accounts was a real cow.

Maybe Mary?

Nah, I think the newly-returned Brian would be a good match for Mary - a great comedy-couple.

Agree 100%. Mary's a good 20 years younger than Norris. Over the years the writers have slyly hinted at Norris' feelings for Rita - not romance as such, but a caring empathy. She'a a woman of the world, and I reckon she's already seen there's a better side to him. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them paired-up in the next few years.

Given they both have the same stutter it would drive me nuts!

Did we ever see A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,Angela back in the day? Norris entered the street on the back of Derek the stationer didn't he? And he was something to do with Rita? Was Angela Derek's ex?

Yes, my mistake, Derek was married to Angela, and later married Mavis Riley.

banghead

From Corrie wiki:-

Norris Benjamin Cole was born on 5th March 1940. His mother Eunice had put his older half-brother Ramsay up for adoption, but he returned in 1960 after tracking her down. Eunice died the following year, which left a devastated Norris to blame Ramsay, a grudge he held against him for many years.

Norris was a salesman and married Myrtle Hargreaves but later left her and moved in with Derek and Mavis Wilton in the 1990s after picking him up and driving him home when Derek's car broke down. They became rivals and Norris once played a prank on Derek by kidnapping his gnome Arthur and sending ransom notes. When Derek found out after finding Arthur in Norris' cupboard, he drove him to the wrong church on Norris' wedding day to Derek's ex-wife Angela, where Derek was the best man. He attended Derek's funeral in 1997 after he died of a heart attack.

In 1999, Norris reappeared in Coronation Street and having briefly lodged with the Duckworths, he moved in with Emily Bishop and got a job at The Kabin working for Rita Sullivan. Norris became a cowardly gossip and got into scrapes, especially with serial killer Richard Hillman who intended to murder Emily. In 2009, Ramsay came back after fifty years to make amends but Norris wasn't having any of it, and Ramsay died later from a brain tumour when returning to Australia. Norris used the money from Ramsay's will to buy The Kabin as Rita was retiring.
