So Carla's celebrating the biggest contract they've had for a long time. 10,000 pairs of knicks. I've always assumed, possibly incorrectly, that the stuff the factory makes is sort of middle-price - not the designer-price kit, but a notch up from a pack of 5 for £3.99. But an order of 10,000 is a big deal?
She's got about 15 staff there, plus rent on the unit and all the usual utilities - I think she sells direct to retailers like catalogues, but all the same the profit margin will only be about £2-3 a pair, surely? IMO the figures don't add up.
.
In the rag trade you would expect each person to make a pair in what 5 mins? 12 an hour times 15 staff 180 an hour 1440 a day 7200 a week - their biggest order is 10 days work - corry researchers got that one badly wrong. She's got about 15 staff there, plus rent on the unit and all the usual utilities - I think she sells direct to retailers like catalogues, but all the same the profit margin will only be about £2-3 a pair, surely? My thoughts exactly last night! She's got about 15 staff there, plus rent on the unit and all the usual utilities - I think she sells direct to retailers like catalogues, but all the same the profit margin will only be about £2-3 a pair, surely? IMO the figures don't add up.
I also now think Alya must be the most beautiful woman to have ever graced the cobbles!

Does anyone else think that Tracey looked frighteningly like Michael Jackson when she was in the corner shop tonight?
I thought that too....(When she was glaring at Carla as she was leaving the shop).I reckon she may try to sabotage Underworld's big new order....Tracey is pure evil......

I like Wacky's notion about a sabotage plan. That'd be typical Corrie scriptwriting.
Peter's on his way out soon, though the storyline allows for his return.

Whilst Corrie does generally select the "right car" for the characters, I see Kal drives an 03-plate Audi A4 Avant. His kids are adults, he hasn't got a dog, he doesn't lug loads around. Seems wrong to me, I reckon an "available" gym-owner would drive something like a Jap sporty coupe.

With margins being very keen in the rag trade, and buyers eager to squeeze the last penny on price out of the manufacturer, I doubt if Underworld is making much more than a quid net on a pair of frilly knickers, ergo an order for 10,000 is hardly worthy of breaking out the champagne..
Still, we are in a recession, so every little helps.......

Wacky was very prescient about Tracy and a sabotage plan. Looks like it's on the near horizon.
Cilla used up all the air freshener in the bog. I'd give it 5 minutes, as they say. What the hell had she been eating?
Industrial sabotage...digestive disorders - it's the soap that's got the lot! Beat that Eastenders!Cilla used up all the air freshener in the bog. I'd give it 5 minutes, as they say. What the hell had she been eating?
Yes, our joint calculations seem to reveal that the scriptwriters have their sums wrong. There must be 10 or 12 stitchers in that factory, together with at least 2 packers - even on minimum wage (unlikely if they're skilled workers) the weekly wage bill plus rent/utilities would mean little or no profit, yet Carla stood them all a free drink in the Rovers when she secured the deal.
Pedantry rules!
PS nice to see Ronald Pickup on the screen again. Haven't seen him in anything for ages.
