The official PH Coronation Street thread

Gritty realism from Corrie -
1) Lloyd's face as he sprayed the air freshener after he'd taken the dump of dumps.
2) The fact that the script admitted that the Dutton was a kit-car. Many other shows would have masqueraded it as some sort of hot "sports car".
I'm no GP, but I've always been led to believe that depression can take several and varied forms. I wouldn't be surprised if the writers hadn't looked into this before they wrote the script. It's probably a bona fide "style" of depression. And I'd still take Kym Marsh over my left hand, if given the choice.

Maybe Steve committing suicide would be a good Christmas storyline?
Too much like an Eastenders episode! And knowing the ineptitude of Steve he'd probably use rope that was a foot too short.
I can see Michelle moving in with Carla soon. And Steve was SO close to admitting to the GP about his problem - will he go back for a second visit?

I have visions of him tying a nylon rope to a lamppost outside the Kabin and then looping it over his head, climbing into his new P+J, and then flooring it up the street such that his head detaches from his body. And knowing the ineptitude of Steve he'd probably use rope that was a foot too short.

Steves depression has come from nowhere and without trigger, if Liz died then ok but nothing has happened to cause this. He has 2 decent business`s and a fit Mrs and a decent life, yes its soap but Christ give him a reason to be sad.
Well that certainly takes the turkey for most depression intolerant/ignorant post on PH this year.Mr GrimNasty said:

Well that certainly takes the turkey for most depression intolerant/ignorant post on PH this year.I have experience myself - in my case it was in the form of OCD, constantly making lists of things to do, and becoming panicked if I thought they couldn't be done. And inexplicable rages (vocal and mental) if I thought I'd been done a misjustice. It's a strange afflication - thank God for "happy pills".
I think in the case of Steve, we're supposed to assume it evolved from his conflict of loyalties in the murder case, and the fact that this got on top of him. I wouldn't mind Kym Marsh getting on top of me (sorry, too much smut).

Well that certainly takes the turkey for most depression intolerant/ignorant post on PH this year.Depression, like all mental illness, is a bloody ghastly thing to experience and its causes are rarely simple. They can be a reaction to a bad experience like a dying partner etc but can strike somebody like I was- mid 30s , great job , good money and good relationship .Having had what used to be called a 'mental breakdown' many years ago - for no apparent reason - I can still remember the falling off a cliff feeling of horror.
Attitudes like some of those expressed above should have been left in the bloody dark ages and whilst I wouldn't wish it upon anybody there would be a certain irony if it struck some of the tough guys who haven't got the brain to realise you don't just 'snap out of it '. Thankfully my problem was a one off but I massively sympathise with any sufferers. Who don't include , by the way, people who have nothing worse than a difficult day at work (like we all do ) and then pronounce themselves depressed on that experience alone . It's an easy thing to fake but a horrendous thing actually to experience

Yes, our joint calculations seem to reveal that the scriptwriters have their sums wrong. There must be 10 or 12 stitchers in that factory, together with at least 2 packers - even on minimum wage (unlikely if they're skilled workers) the weekly wage bill plus rent/utilities would mean little or no profit, yet Carla stood them all a free drink in the Rovers when she secured the deal.
Pedantry rules!
PS nice to see Ronald Pickup on the screen again. Haven't seen him in anything for ages.
He was in this very enjoyable film a couple of years back.Pedantry rules!

I'm sure DS didn't mean any harm, I'm sure he's a top bloke.
I, like many people have experienced depression at close hand for over twenty years, and it's not anything you would wish on your worst enemy.
It can strike anyone at any time, and come back at any time....just feeling a bit down doesn't even scratch the surface.
Anyhow, let's not get too much into this, it's meant to be a light hearted thread poking a bit of fun at a great programme enjoyed by millions.....
Nice to see the Dutton in the show, wonder where they dragged that up from.
When Steve was expressing interest, I said to Mrs WR "that's worth around 2k", I wasn't too far out...
I still find his behaviour very strange though....
