Rathbone for me.

In some of his later episodes Brett became a bit too hammy for my liking.

Another Jeremy Brett fan here.

Having read all of the books he captures the essence of Holmes perfectly, the scripts, scenery and attention to detail are spot on but the way he interacted with Watson was always the icing on the cake.

Jeremy Brett
Took it got involved with it lived it
One of the most brilliant TV series ever made and that's allowing for the liberties taken with some of the adaptions
Seemed to exist in an era when ITV Did Holmes and BBC did Miss Marple and Joan Hickson was wonderful truly truly wonderful.

For those with Kindles the whole set of books is free on Amazon. Brilliantly written although because of the idiomatic language of the time hard to read.

I don't think they're hard to read at all compared with say, Dickens or the Brontës.

jeremy brett by a mile-his last episodes were when he was actually dying from lithium toxicity due to his manic depression-hence the best portrayal as holmes likely had manic depreesion in the books

Oddest?

Peter Cook.
George C Scott.
Roger Moore.
Leonard Nimoy.
Larry Hagman.

No, probably Charlton Heston.... "You Maniac Moriarty! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell! "

They seem to agree with "Jeremy Brett" touted on here.

I'll throw in Data as a left field contestant hehe
Rule 34? "If it exists there is internet porn of it, no exceptions?" Well, thank you for reminding me about that regulation but I can't see how it is pertinent to our present situation

Porn? I rephrased the Rule, I don't think I was covert about it?

"If it exists, Watchmojo made a list of it." I said.

As a former Soviet boy, I admire Vasiliy Livanov portrayal, for which he was given MBE by the Queen.

I started watching Elementary as a result of this thread.

It's alright, but I don't know why Jonny Lee Miller spends 45 minutes dicking around trying to solve his mystery with details. Everyone knows that it's the best known guest actor that did it.

Who, in your opinion was the best occupier of 221B Baker Street?

I would have to say Basil Rathbone in the classic 30's/40's episodes along with his bumbling sidekick Nigel Bruce..(Dr Watson)

He is my favourite as well (by a league). I do like Benedict, and Peter Cook.
I wanna watch the Jonny Miller version though.

edit.
I forgot Michael Caine, probably the best fun version!
I really need to rewatch the Cook version for a comparison.
