Shush - I've been fascinated by Oak Island since I read about it in a "Mysteries of the World" book about 30 years ago. It's definitely something like alien gold hidden there - that and the secret wedding photos of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.

Can't be long to go now...

4 weeks of the season left.

Disappointed with Parker whining like a little bh last night, hoping Tony would forget about the terms of their agreement.

Yep, really showed him up as not only did he whine about the terms of the contract that he signed, well into the season, but I suspect he'd totally forgotten about them, which is pretty poor business sense.

20% is a huge cut to be giving away though - I guess it makes sense if you're only running a small crew and hit it unexpectedly big (probably what Parker imagined on signing up) as it would pay for itself, but it's a kick in the balls if you've brought in extra equipment and crew (and the costs that come with them) to hit the higher numbers.

20% is what the Hoffmans are paying too isn't it? And they're paying it across the board, not just over 1500oz.

He does like to get his own way, doesn't he?!!

Watched 'The Dirt' beforehand, and there was one critical comment - something about looking like he's homeless. He kicked back with 'Who am I trying to impress, no-one', whilst looking really quite upset.

I like him though - he's got skills, great engagement with his crew, and the focussed determination that means I can't see him failing. He'll be the 'next Tony Beets' in my opinion, and telling whiny kids to shuddup and deal witit!

Hitting permafrost like that has gotta hurt. Knowing there's loads of gold there, but not being able to get to it.

Hoffmans looking daft again. Two trucks down, one through error. Turned it into a 2WD instead of 6WD. My missus asked why they didn't take the necessary parts from one of the broken ones to make one proper broken and the other fully working...

I've never understood their attitude to maintenance - they don't seem to carry any spares whatsoever - it's a recurring theme of the show - understand you can't sit on the equivalent of the Tonka GS&F, but no spares for the trucks, the diggers, the plant - oh and no real method of getting them shipped in so they bodge the hell out it all to great cheers and then they sort of work around it - well until the Winter sneaks up on them again- they're usually still furiously still loading dirt into the machine whilst everything turns to ice and snow - leaving all their kit whenever it is when the snow comes.

Come spring..... "frickennnnnnn Dozer won't start" - guess what, it's because you raped it all last summer, dumped it into a ditch whilst the temp fell to -20c and somehow it didn't magically fix itself.

Again - I'm late to the party on this one, but I'm hooked.

It seems SO bonkers and far fetched that I had to go away a do a bit of research. I was in a half a mind that it was just some made-up story line (probably because I've also been watch too many episodes of Big Foot Hunters).

I just can't comprehend how such an elaborate system of wells / flood chambers was built into an island and remain such a puzzle today.

Sorry - nothing to do with Gold Rush!

They are, and when they signed the deal they mentioned that it was higher than everyone else charges, but they didn't have a choice as they were so late to start the season.

Yup, whe episode started last night I was already getting annoyed at Tony as the show last week showed a clip from last night, and implied that he was changing the terms of the contract and 20% was what he now wanted.

Watching the show however, I could see they had edited the clip from last weeks show only to make it look like Tony was in the wrong!

Parker was acting like a knob! Should've just sucked it up and said he'd get at it...

Surprised the claim owners don't work the other way though - 20% of the first 500, then 15% of the next 1,500 and 10% of anything over that - probably get the same (in a season) but the person looking for the gold would feel like the deal is improving rather than reducing.

That's exactly the sort of deal I would have expected too - it encourages the miner to find more gold and means the claim owner gets a decent return if they are rubbish miners and only find a fraction of what should be there - plus it doesn't penalise anyone for hitting the mother load!

I suspect it's to protect the claim owners - they don't want to be giving away land with a lot of gold in it for someone else to take the profit, so they charge a lower initial rate to get miners interested and then ratchet it up to ensure that if there's more gold than they thought, they don't lose out on it.

If I was a claim owner, I’d want to be there at the clean up, not when they are weighing out the gold!

“Yeah, look, we only got 42oz….too bad. We’ll hope for a better result next week…..(I won’t mention that it was actually 173oz)….anyway, here’s your 8oz cut…..” hehe

The numbers don’t add up for a serious commercial mining operation. They’d want at least $50 a yard. There are too many variables to make it worth their while. All the easy, rich ground has been mined (hence why there are no longer dredges running). The vast majority of miners are there with the dream of striking it rich. I expect the reality is that most are making a living but when you consider the outlay and running costs, plus the cut to the claim owners and investors, salaries, loan repayments etc they probably aren’t making that much. Especially when you consider that they are working 14 hours a day, 125 days straight – that’s equivalent to working a year at a 9-5. The real money in mining has and always will be, in leasing/selling the plant and equipment.

It's always said that the man who got richest from the original 19th century gold rush was selling shovels.

A full-on Discovery Channel Film Crew on-hand 24/7, who would dearly love to film one of the miners trying to rip off the claim owners builds a lot of trust - but in the 'real world' I'm with you - it MUST go on, I consider myself pretty honest, but if I was in their shoes and my claim owner just popped in once a week to see the weigh-in AND I was staking my entirely livelihood on it, I'd find it hard not to skim a couple of oz off.

Enjoyed last night's episode with Parker only running for a few days after diverting the stream and landing the biggest clean up yet.

Very big haul for Parker there, yet another pitiful cleanup at the Hoffman claim again.

The children probably got more gold than they did!

Does anyone else watch Gold Divers afterwards?

What an utter Brad Kelly is. He steals gold from his own sons for fks sake. Why the two of them haven't made him have "an accident" out on the boat is beyond me. If I were them I think I'd have drowned him long ago.

Emily Riedel is a tt. A whiny, moany tt who is every bit as good a miner as her father was in the first couple of series, which is to say she'd have trouble mining st out of a cesspit.

I used to watch Ax Men but I've given up because of all the "danger" bits.

I think Bering sea gold and gold divers is the same show same with under the ice.

And yes Brad Kelly is a

Wish we had seen more of Parkers running last night, felt like a short episode with little content
