I'm well aware that it's not "real" mining - but they're on course to pull 2,700 Oz of gold out of the ground this season and have pulled over 200 Oz in a week - that is a serious operation for a bunch of amateurs, regardless of how they're funding it.
But business is all about profit, any fool could get gold if they throw enough money, equipment, fuel and men at it, but take away the TV fees and freebies and just how much are they making?

Well, the Hoffmans certainly struggled to get gold out of the ground the first few seasons!

I'd suggest it takes a lot more than you imagine to run their current operation, regardless of funding and support.

Yes, it's the summer 2015 mining season, which finished in late August, I think?

Not Todd, Parker.

In simplest terms, quite likes a new kid he's hired, been there a few weeks.

However, said kid is st stirring constantly, and Rick wants him gone (he's not entirely in the right as he's not even properly met the bloke, and is relying on heresay).

Parker tells Rick to leave as 'he's not got his back'.

Ive been watching this on and off for a couple of years, Ever since I visited a large coal mine in the Canadian Rockies.
I cant quite watch the UK version, it needs the US commentary and hype! Plus the pronunciation of Parker's surname laugh

Yeah Parker has turned into a proper plum.

I know the Yanks have a pretty fast and loose attitude to employment, but it seems based on Gold Rush, Fast n' Loud, Pawn Stars etc that a simple disagreement between Boss and Employee is enough to see you down the road - no need to have a chat with HR, performance management or that - express an opinion that's not completely aligned with the boss and it's down the road you go, good riddance.

I'll check that out, thanks.

I've seen a couple of the US version of Railroad Alaska and the US commentary takes some adjusting too. He sounds like Officer Dibble from Top Cat:

Also their running order is different than ours. The false jeopardy is strong in this show, but the scenery is amazing.

You got to remember that these are extremely small companies - the boss is the owner and probably the accountant and the HR guy as well. I don't think you'd have much rights in a one man band company here either would you?

I was watching most of the recent US series on youtube or solarmovie online streaming. I didnt quite finish series 5, or whenever Parker smashed up his new Raptor.

I suspect there was some very heavy editing of the discussion between Rick and Parker - the shot we saw was from about 25m away of Parker's back and the cab that Rick was in. Pretty sure there would be a camera in Rick's cab facing the door (as we see shots from these cameras all the time), but they chose to show the long distance shot, meaning we can't actually see what they're saying.

The audio also didn't seem quiet right, Parker's "So...Leave!" sounded to me like it had been spliced out of a longer sentence(s).

I've noticed the editing of what is said on quite a few occassions. Basically, if I don't see their lips actually say the words, I doubt they said them in the way we are shown they did (or even at that time we're shown they did).

Anyone still watching?

The Tony Beets special was very interesting - you have to take your hat off to him for how far he's come.

Tony Beets episode was okay, I don't really like him so it had limited appeal to me.

It's another Discovery show that's past it's best for me - who's left to root for? Tony is a bullying lunatic, Parker is a complete ahole, which only leaves Todd in his Dunce Hat with his Fricken Dad and poor old Dave Turin, incredibly capable but talked into stupid things by Todd.

'The Story' has been told, 6 years ago they stood a gasp looking at these big industrial operations, which is, seems watching last night, were run by Tony Beets, with their fleets of rock trucks, excavators and wash plants - now they've grown to match them. What's left? Another stuck machine to pull out, another rushed shot of Dave or Rick running towards the generator shouting "shut her down!!!" because a belt has torn or water hose split, maybe the tailings pile is too big or they've run out of water again - it's the same old stuff.

All that's left now is a bit of scripted rivalry between them all and targets plucked from their imagination that their salaried employees have to pretend they care about.

I'm still watching, enjoyed the Tony Beets episode this week.

I can see where people are coming from, however I'm enjoying seeing them deal with larger issues, such as what ground to aim for/procure.

The dredges are bloody awesome too.

Parker is indeed becoming a bigger prick every week - he always used to be hard on himself, but he appeared to have a crew that would kill themselves for him. That's no where near the case now, and the fault can only lie in one place.

The Tony Bleeps episode was better than I thought it would be. Interesting to see their pad in Arizona. He clearly likes his Mercs.

There was no future for Tony in milking cows, his wife's face would turn the milk sour in an instant.
