I saw one of the very early episodes and they were ecstatic at getting about 16 ounces of gold on a weekly clean up. How times have changed.

What keeps my interest is seeing how far Parker can go and how the Dredges pan out.

The Hoffman set up is just the same old crap every year, but at least you've got entertaining characters to watch doing it.

Yes she's a hottie sure enough but I noticed on the Tony Beets special that her Mum looked very similiar to her when young.....scary to think she might look like that in another 20 years!

Looking like the Hoffman crew are going for broke again next season - trailer showed them metal detecting in I think Idaho, and pulling out a nugget...

That'll be fun to watch.

Surely sometimes they would hoike out a big nugget like they used to in the real Gold Rush? They only ever seem to get little more than gold dust.

I think they find the odd reasonably sized nugget, but don't forget people have been looking for gold in that area for over 100 years; the best ground has long since been mined.

Yep. It seems the ground all these guys are mining has already been mined once or twice before - but as the wash plant tech has improved, and earth moving has become more efficient, what was uneconomic to recover becomes viable.

Tony's main operation seems to be based on shifting staggering quantities of dirt to capture the microdust still left.

Freddie Dodge talks of virgin ground fairly often (seemingly he's aware due to the equipment supply he does), but understandably he doesn't talk names or places!

I'm sure there's plenty of virgin ground in the Yukon (isn't Parker mining on some now?), but virgin ground does not equal gold rich.

The gold rich virgin ground was no doubt mined years ago.

Not according to Freddie in an episode of the Dirt earlier this series...

He was taking off claims where they're finding 10-20x the gold per yard - iirc driven by migration of springs over very long periods of time.

Maybe the episodes ago - the last one he was on.

So, Todd and Parker seem to be taking their rivalry very seriously this year - how much do you think Discovery are going to give to the winner?

Must be at least 6 figures, I would have thought?

Don't know, but they're certainly going for it. They're obviously being tipped off on how the other is doing.

It's been a good second half of the season.

Todd's new ground looks promising, and is presumably year round.

Has Parker actually bought the claim Todd is on this year?

Meanwhile, Tony Beets is typical mentalist.

Here's a question. Have you ever, in all the episodes, ever, seen Todd Hoffman actually do any work at all? Anything?

Related question, what has Parker been doing all season - the only time I've seen him on the machinery is after there's been a problem and he's helping catch up.

For all the routine stuff, he seems to be nowhere in sight?

I like the way Todd finds one nugget on the claim and is all ready to bet the farm on it - nothing changes!

Of course, it will be an absolute bust again. Todd seems to believe in the fairytale of the Gold Rush, without realising he's 150 years too late to the party and even back then most miners went bust!

So, that's another season done. Whilst they will never give you the running costs, Tony let out that most miners were running about 80-90%, where as his dredge was about 50-60%. (I guess that includes the land owners cut)

I would imagine Todd runs closer to 90% as his crew is massive, and they lease/buy equipment for fun. So on a $3m season, they will have $300k for about 12 peoples wages, and future investments. No wonder they can't afford to buy land!

Parkers seams to be a more efficient set up, so I guess he's at around 80% (moving the wash plant instead of running rock trucks etc etc) which is good going. Plus he has a smaller crew
