Maybe someone can help me out on this as I can't quite work it out..

Why doesn't Tony have a higher rate for the 1st few thou ounces and then reduce the more they get?

Like 25% for the first thousand, 20% for 2nd thousand, 17.5% for third thousand and then 15% for everything over three thousand..

They'd work harder trying to get as much over the 3k as possible. What am I missing?
I think it's to protect the claim owner from the miners finding a mother lode and raking it in at lower rates. Say they aim to mine 3,000 Oz using your royalty rates but actually mine 6,000 Oz due to finding a particularly rich deposit - the claim owner loses out and only gets 15% of very rich ground.
Its all about time IMHO. Keep them on the hook for a season, make just enough for a good living etc keep them on the hook but run out of time get back next year and round and round you go. The last thing a claim owner wants is for someone to turn up and mine $20M in one season as they will never come back. Mine that in $2M chunks over 10 years... all is well.
I don't follow - if I were the claim owner I'd be over the moon if you delivered $20m to me in one season and never came back, rather than having to wait 10 years for it!

Another good episode.
Todd failing miserably as usual, and looking at next weeks clips it gets worse. He seems to just bank on hoping to find 5000 onces of gold, the same as I hope to win the lottery
Parker doing well again, and I was hoping to see some work on tonys new dredge.
Todd Hoffman is truly a joke - year after year he throws hundreds of thousands, if not millions at seemingly totally unknown operations on nothing more than a hunch. Makes great TV, so perhaps that's what it's all about for him. Takes the "reality" tv description a bit far though and is ultimately a massive deception on the viewer.

Haven't seen Parker's girlfriend since the first episode - wonder how that's working out given how focussed he tends to get on the mining.

Haven't watched since Tony first got his dredge built. Are the later series worth watching or is it too contrived now?

It's very contrived but I still enjoy it.

I'm really enjoying this series, the beats kids crew seam to be working really well.

Parker will do really well if he achieves the same gold as last season with let then half the crew size! He appears to have matured a lot over the winter and I think it's showing with his results. Also fair play for keeping Chris (I think) on, when he's not really doing any work!

As for Todd, I've decided that it must all be staged and funded by someone else. I know nothing about mining, but if I was going to up and move my crew 2000 miles to a new claim, I would want to see some good drill results. They seam to have plucked the idea of 5000 ounces out of thin air on some land that they have a good feeling about????

As others have said, I think the Hoffmans are only about making dramatic TV since the time they went to Ghana, you cannot call what they do "mining". They're just throwing huge amounts of resources into a very low odds lottery, hoping to hit it big on long shots (and failing year after year).

Without the TV money they would have been bust several times over.

Seems to be echoes of the jungle episode this season. They go to a place ½ way through a season looking for somewhere to mine the following season, they get Freddy to dig around and do some test pans. Freddy finds loads of gold and they decide to move there the following year.

With the Ghana jungle season, when they arrived back at the start of the season they found the area they had planned to mine had already been mined out probably after they left and before they got back. Claim owner didn’t seem that bothered….

With this new season they arrive and find a wash plant already set up… clearly someone has spent allot getting it all setup. Makes me wonder if the claim owners had already got all the good/easy stuff and thought they could get Todd and co to mop up the scraps that are left (maybe I need to get my tin foil hat checkedhehe).

Anyone else spot a Donald Trump hat on Todd's son in last night's episode?

No surprise that bunch of throbbers are Trump supporters I suppose.

Yep, I noticed his son wearing a "make America great again" hat, and no I wasn't surprised.

If you follow Todd on Facebook you get the general gist that most of his postings are thinly veiled racism and xenophobia.

His posts present an image that if you aren't white, male, American and Christian, then he really doesn't like you and your days are numbered.

Just a few of Todd's recent postings:

I'm voting pro life and pro mining. I don't want Sharia Law in this country. Educate yourself on what is happening in Europe. Last chance.

FBI reopened case on Hillary.

Socialism Sucks.

I'm a survivalist.

I'm a conservative.

I love Jesus.

All the gold in the world will not save Todd Hoffman when I cross over from this world. I will be covered in the blood of Jesus Christ and will rest in the assurance of the promises made in the bible.

All the saints that have gone before us are watching us during our short time.

I'm a big fan of the show, but even for me yesterday's episode was a bit boring - was pretty much entirely stuff we'd seen before multiple times.

Yeah worst show for ages. Perhaps the worst.

Parkers clean up was disappointing, I'm guessing his girlfriend filtering out all the bigger lumps of gold was the cause, because they didn't seem to be in his end pan for the weigh in!!!

Well if I doubted before I don't anymore - the guy is a friggin' fruitloop as well as being the crappest miner in the history of mining (on Gold Rush at least!)

hes obviously on day release when discovery are filming gold rush , keep your eyes peeled for a white van in the background .
But seriously , as I said ages ago , he and his crew must be well paid per episode to stand up and make themselves a laughing stock .

Worst episode for a while.
True what was said above about Parkers clean up, not many nuggets sliding onto the scales???
Todd, just a joke as usual, suprised he still hasn't said "I think we can still do 5000 ounces" the bloke is deluded. The guys in the first mine didn't seem happy, they obviously hadn't watched previous series of gold watch to see how bad Todd is.
And I don't think I'd ever buy anything off tony, he motto is just get it working, can't help but think his lack of preventative maintenance will come and bite him. Dredge is doing well though considering.

What do they do the countryside once they have finished - they make a hell of a mess.

Does US law make them return it to the same state as before or like coal mining do they take what they want and move on ?
