Sounds like a couple of people on here have been to Lympstone, a couple of other questions spring to mind:
1) They get up at 5:30am, what time do they get put to bed?
2) What's with the showing them how to wash, shave and iron. Are your average late teen / early twenty year old that useless these days?
I'm sure there will be more as the series goes on.
Good telly though.
They go to bed when they have finished their kit/cleaning jobs/anything else.1) They get up at 5:30am, what time do they get put to bed?

Some are some aren't but you can't select the few out so the lesson is given to everyone. No excuses to not do it right if you've had the lesson.

I'm a bit surprised by the caliber of individuals joining. The guys I know who joined the RMs were all super fit, well educated high achievers before they became marines, these recruits look a complete rabble.
It's just another selectively edited modern show like all the others. Done in an Apprentice style, so I'm treating it the same way I treat the Apprentice. There was one on a few years ago, BBC I think that was much better. I think it was this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sK9e-bUZq14 but without watching all 4 parts it could be another, there have been a few.

Yes, they really are that useless. The Army do similar lessons. 1) They get up at 5:30am, what time do they get put to bed?

As an ex-Pongo that has served with 40Cdo on Ops, I've always thought 'The Royals' a bit fetishistic about cleanliness.

They always have thought how to wash and shave etc.. It's so if you don't do it you will get thrashed.1) They get up at 5:30am, what time do they get put to bed?

Thing that struck me was the corporal's gratuitous, almost desperate multiple use of the "F" word. These day's absolutely no one is shocked by the use of the "F" word in these circumstances. Even old ladies like Helen Mirren use it on TV.
I remember a sergeant who almost never swore, he didn't need to. When he did you knew to take cover.

It does seem a military convention to use 'F' words as punctuation rather than an adjective. You'd think they would want to leave some words in reserve for when they are really annoyed.I remember during my basic training a sergeant who almost never swore. Likewise every non commando trained Pongo I've worked with has been a honking piece of kit who shaved fully dressed, hardly showered and went to the "scoff house" in used phys rig. I once witnessed someone using an electric razor while they were still in bed!We were told that they do the cleaning lessons as they accept recruits from the commonwealth who may not be familiar with our way of doing things.
What you don't see is what happens when the camera isn't there. Those shocked with the language should also know that it's likely that was probably toned down for TV.
