It's a shame that Charles won't have the humility to stand out of the way when she does go.

For what it's worth I think we did ourselves proud tonight with that spectacle. Opening ceremonies are car crash TV at the best of times with most of the performers being volunteers it's never going to be Cirque du soleil.

That said, the music should have been better.

Going to be weird, this is going to be the first time a guy running round Celtic park with a baton isn't a Mason trying to lift me #CommonwealthGames

I think, overall, that the Commonwealth was the winner of that evening.

Nobody really cared for all the poncing around and the flashbangs.

I've been lucky enough to have visited many of those tiny Island Nations. They are very proud of their cultures and history. The thing is, we had an instant brotherhood through the Commonwealth.

How would you ever replace that?

Shame as there cant be many people who have the respect of virtually everyone, even if they disagree with the monarchy/independence thing.
Respect? She drives around in a 12 year old modified bentley continental r with knackered suspension. Should have an mx5 etc etc

Given the non existent profile of this event (I speak as someone in Scotland) we should have put the £400m into the Olympics - it seems a real waste of money spending so much to get so little (though I suppose it's another event to compete at for junior athletes).
The games really hasn't been promoted or advertised all that well or at all really. I was at a BBQ last night with friends, we're all well into sports and I thought I'd stick this on for a bit of background noise whilst we sat nursing food babies. Not a single one of them realised it was on tonight, nor that the events begin today.

The biggest piece on TV in the build up I have seen was on the BBC morning news yesterday. That was it.

TBH the opening of the London Olympics was utterly cringeworthy fking gash as well hehe Just, we don't mind laughing at ourselves.
The first 20 minutes was ace though (london) it did go rapidly down hill from there mind.

I thought it was quite good. Low key and good fun, not brash and flash. They had to do the whole "nessie etc" bit because that is what everyone knows about Scotland.

Being able to work in a "by the way we also invented the modern world" bit was clever.

Getting Scottie dogs involved was genious.

Let's face it though, these things are never great.

I thought Beijing"s was the only really good one. After that everyone else should have decided not to bother. hehe

The actual story is this statue has had a road cone on its head for years, put there by students. Each time the council remove it, another one ends up there shortly after. The council eventually gave up. I would say its more student humour than the whole of Scotland pissing themselves laughing at it. Totally bizarre they decided to put such a nothing story into the opening ceremony.
