Another vote for Sons of Anarchy here. It is actually quite clever if you can see past the guns, violence, leather clothing and gang initiations.

Just finished series one. It's quite good, although i think the acting at times is suspect.

Yeah, that's a low point. The most recent series have been back on form though.

Suits is a good shout as well, me and the OH have really enjoyed it so far. Well written, very witty dialogue, some funny moments and some good drama. Almost makes you feel a bit of sympathy for lawyers at times.

Almost smile

I've watched up to the penultimate episode of SoA series 1, and I'm not sure whether I can be bothered to continue.

Before I commit further, does it get less ridiculous?

Also, do they stop saying "we need to get there without being spotted", before setting off on their LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! ridiculous noisy bikes?

As with most fictional tv series it remains fairly ridiculous, but (in my opinion) it is enjoyable and gets better as it goes on - they develop the characters well and the acting gets better too.

So, of the titles nominated so far. Some are not available on either streaming services I have so they are gone (I know there are other options). Leaving:

Battlestar Galactica
Firefly
24
Prison Break
Dexter
The Killing (US and original)
Sons of Anarchy
Justified
Deadwood
Orange New Black
The Shield
West Wing
Suits

SoA seems to be in the lead at the moment but I found the following as well.

Hemlock Grove
Lillyhammer
House of Cards (us or uk)
Person of Interest
White Collar
Rome
American Horror Story
Dust til Dawn
Under the Dome
Vikings
Mad Men
Black Sails

Any thoughts?

The ones I've seen in that list..

Dexter - I've watched it all the way up to the end of season 7. It's ridiculous at times and full of plot holes but it manages to be very entertaining throughout. I really enjoyed it and I'm debating whether or not to watch the last season (95% of people say it's crap but a few people I know say it's worth watching). Dark humour, violent/graphic, interesting story.

Prison Break - watched the first season. Thought I would love it but I found the acting sub-par and something was just a bit 'off' about it.

Suits - Great show! Very witty script with some really good characters. The acting is spot on & the camera work is great. I'd really recommend it. There's 2 seasons on netflix but there's actually a 4th season airing now in the US. Barely into season 3 so can't comment on how it progresses. First two seasons are spot on though.

Lilyhammer - Bit weird. Mob guy ends up in Norway after witnessing a murder. He can't speak Norwegian but understands it. It's a bit of a black comedy kind of deal and it's very quirky. I've only watched a few episodes so far but I quite like it. There isn't anything else on that's quite like it.

Not seen any of the others but I am keen to watch a fair few of them. Good list. I think you'll be fine with most of them

Suits has gone down imo in season 4, season 1,2,3 though... awesome.

The Good Wife is an excellent series too, not violent etc. but a great watch all the same.

If you are looking for something funny, The League - it's hilarious.

Well we started Orange is the New Black last night.

Nearly didn't make it through the first episode, but held on and it improved enough in the last quarter to get another viewing. The lead actress was awful, the characters were unsympathetic the flashback/forward format didn't really work. We will see.

Dexter is brilliant. I'm midway through season 5, which hasn't been as good as season 4.... but still bloody good. Very dark, quite amusing in places, and extremely graphic.

Absolutely has to be The West Wing. Quite superb.
