Laurel & Hardy

There was a wonderful play on Radio 4 a few years ago which starred Tom Courtenay as Stanley Laurel. It covers the last few days of Hardy's life where Stan visited him a number of times in hospital. Ollie couldn't talk so the play is essentially a monolouge by Courtney as he reminisces over their movie careers and their relationship.
It's very touching.
It's not currently on the iPlayer but seeing that it was last broadcast in October 2016, it will probably show up again before too long.

Hardy had a great tenor voice and could have made a career as a singer...
Some great touches in their films including the Foreign Legion one.. Beau Hunks...

Laurel and Hardy; most excellent.
How about the Marx brothers, much love here?
Yes, anything with Groucho and Margaret Dumont. How about the Marx brothers, much love here?
"Marry me and I'll never look at another horse."
"I bet you'd make a wonderful wife. I can just see you bending over a hot stove, only I can't see the stove."
"Will you marry me? Are you rich? Answer the second question first!"
"We're fighting for this woman's honour, which is more than she ever did!"
Dumont - My husband is dead.
Groucho - I bet he's just using that as an excuse.
Dumont - As he passed away I held him in my arms and kissed him
Groucho - So it was murder!
God I love Laurel and Hardy. As somebody else mentioned they used to show them on TV in, I think, the 80's along with Harold Lloyd (when I was an impressionable teenager).
Harold Lloyd was great but Laurel and Hardy were, IMHO, a different class. Really timeless humour.
I love the slapstick with things like where Stan opens a drawer and Olly puts his head through it, or when they were decorating and Olly got a paintbrush stuck to his face which they had to shave off with a woodplane.
I keep thinking about getting the boxset but it gets really bad reviews about the picture quality and I don't want to spoil my memories.

With the brilliant James "Doh" Finlayson, the hat trick which always makes me think of Eric Morecambe's later paper bag and ball trick.

And yes, bloody brilliant; maybe the nostalgia of watching them at a formative age but for some reason they just tickle me - me and the kids watched a couple and once past the shock of 'did you live in black and white days?' they were rolling round too.

I'm a bit late to the party, but cheers for posting the link - I'm doing the south coast to Manchester & back tomorrow and I've added this to the plays and podcasts on the USB stick. Big fan of L&H so looking forward to giving this an airing.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
