Gf's sister's husband (potential brother in law) is a Red Arrow.

He said it's worth a watch! Looking forward to it. smile

Looks fantastic. I am currently living in the US, does anyone know if it will be available on YouTube or similar sites?

What the hell do you do in your career/life to follow having been Red One?

I supposed they either stay in the RAF and become that moustachioed bloke that's in charge, or exit the RAF and go on to be very very very well paid project managers or something! But it cannot possibly live up to the days in the plane!

Great programme. I'm really not a aeroplane or forces fanboy, but the 'arrows really are one of the UK's star performers. Must be the proundest feeling in the world to be part of the team.

Well, that must be a first with the weather report being wrong.

Incredible talent on show there = one of the best hours TV this year, IMO.

Bloody car overheated driving home so only caught the last 15 mins. cursecry

Really proud so see my (future) brother in law 'make it'. Staggering amounts of pressure to perform as a Red Arrow.

I watched their display at the Biggin Hill airshow a few weeks back. Will get some photos up at some point. smile

I had a close look at a Red Arrow Hawk on a visit to RAF Scampton once (where they are based). It was all on its lonesome in a maintenance hanger. It has three nozzles above the jet exhaust that spray in regular diesel fuel on demand from the belly tank. Diesel alone gives them the white smoke; The red and blue is done by adding dye to the mix.

Interesting insight. Explains the odd commands that we heard on the tannoy.

Always seem to catch a small bit of them or a fly buh rather that the full display, But caught the lot at Farnborough this year.

Be rude not to, the new bit.

I thought that their Saturday display at Farnborough this year was one of the best I have ever seen (and I've been watching them for almost 40 years). They were simply sublime and a crystal clear blue sky really enhanced the colours of the aircraft and the smoke.

I'm very much minded to dig a couple of Hawks and Gnats out of my plastic model stash and embark on a Red Arrows project.

No chance to watch it as I am out in the desert in the UAE, but it sounds like there was next to nothing on the ground crew who actually keep the things in the air, always the same. Chris.s ex RAF Avionics tech.

Or extract bird remnants from various parts of the Hawks - which they've had top do on three occasions in quick succession recently.

Maybe they should rename them Sparrows to alleviate such problems. wink

It was ok but I thought it was very lightweight and relied too much on fake drama, it's raining what are they going to do!!!!!
They mentioned the selection process but didn't really do anything on it, nothing about keeping them in the air. Could have been so much better.
