Would be a staid and boring show without the colour brought by those two ladies.
Really?

I don't find them funny in the slightest.
Sue is quite aggressively unfunny and obviously works too hard at getting the gags in. Mel, OTOH, is less offensive and a bit more affable.

Although I complained about the stupid and abysmal 'joke' accents in principle they have a good role.

I would agree that SP tries too hard but then find her the less charming of the pair.

The atmosphere in that tent must be intense, especially as the production company / judges seem to deliberately create impossible / crisis situations. 2.5 hours to do an enriched yeast bake with all the other demands is just flaming ridiculous. Ok they have to stretch the contestants, fair enough, but these are not professionals in baking or appearing on TV. Just watch the masterclass shows and see how long the two stooges take for some of these bakes and compare with the task set. Hence competitors are under intense pressure.

Therefore it needs someone to lift things and lighten affairs. To be there in times of crisis and that is what the primary role of Mel and Sue is.

As mentioned earlier MB and PH stay in different hotel to the contestants to maintain a degree of separation and probably stop PH hitting on the fitties.

Mel and Sue stay with the contestants and provide a pastoral role which apart from presenting is their main purpose.

Maybe it's not been shown before but this set do seem far more supportive of each other than previous seasons, rallying round when someone's struggling.

It would be like having Beavis and Butthead co-presenting Masterchef with John Torode and Greg Wallace...

Competitive cookery shows... Now that IS a waste of TV Licence fee (and I'm usually happy to support the BBC's funding policy to avoid ste like the X-Factor, Splash and Celebrity Squares).

Have you actually watched it? I'm happy to pay my licence fee for this show alone tbh.
