Gomorrah, a 12-parter, carries a pungent tang of violence and cynicism as it retells the story of rival factions of the Camorra, the Naples mafia, in the grotty suburb of Scampia 10 years ago. Killers, drug dealers and bent politicians are its dramatis personae. Marco D'Amore plays Ciro, pushy right-hand man of the clan's godfather, who grabs power when the boss is imprisoned.

Could be good, think it in subtitles though

I watched the film of the same name - had an air of inevitability to it and felt a bit cliched.

I will plus this though for later.

no spoilers please!

I watched this last night and I have to say I really enjoyed it, now that Romanzo Criminale and Braquo have finished this fills a nice little 'niche'

I think it is going to be a bit predictable though, I'd bet that Ciro takes over, maybe killing the Don as he seems to have lost it and the Don's son has to get killed at some point soon as well, stereotypical useless Don's son

Gotta love the bling in their apartments, I need a gold frame around my TV for sure.

Yes, very much.

Although Genny's transformation from a chubby mummy's boy who couldn't hurt a fly, to a Mohican headed muscle bound hard nut who shoots old schoolmates for fun, off the back of a tough few weeks in Honduras, is a bit far fetched.

Never knew Triumph motorcycles were held in such high esteem in the backstreets of Naples.

I've really got into this recently and I think it's developing nicely. Even by the normal standards of the show, this week seemed particularly brutal though. I'd quite liked Ciro before!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll give this a try. I read the book but got bored with it halfway through which is a shock because on paper (excuse the pun) it has everything that I like in entertainment mainly being organised crime and people being shot.

Unlike many 'great' series where you apparently have to watch 4 or so seasons to get into it or so you may be told, this has been good from the start and hasn't slipped.

IIRC it's been distributed to a lot of countries - think via Harvey Weinstein?

Best thing on tv for me at the moment. Superbly made. Great casting other than Genny lets it down a bit - tough 'dual' role to deliver convincingly mind. KF
