Took a few months for the phone calls and offers to come when I cancelled. Then they wouldn't stop calling...Will never go back though, very poor value IMHO.

I cancelled around 3-4 years ago. It was not that bad as I recall. I rang them and they offered me new box, I said no thanks, I want to cancel as I don't watch much TV any more. They said ok and cancelled it.

They rang a few times to ask why I cancelled and I said I could not be bothered to explain it to them. After about 3 calls I asked them not to ring again and they did stop.

I did keep BB and phone for a while but then I changed BB to fibre and you just do that on-line and don't need to speak to them. Then I cancelled my DD when the last payment was made and they wrote saying if I did not re-instate the DD they would not be able to provide me with any more services. Really ? That was the whole idea.

I did the same it just seemed like the simplest option - they won't supply me with something if I'm not paying them.
Don't know if they have called as I've moved house and have a new phone number!

Slightly OT but I purchased a Humax Freesat box for the record/pause features, it cost about the same as my 4 months Sky subs - c £140.

Ok, I lost the F1 channel but I can live with that - Five live radio, online timing and the BBC highlights are good enough.
The other thing is the increase in picture quality of the Humax box, it really is a lot better than the Sky box.

I find that with my freeview box. I still keep wondering if Sky downgrade their SD channels quality so people upgrade to HD. Some channels like Gold look positively dire even worse than VHS.

That's exactly what I did as well.

Interesting.

I tried to cancel that way (as well as via email).

I was told that it wasn't possible.

Wait long enough and you get the 75% off offer. I still find I don't watch it enough to be worth it though so it will be cancelled again at the end of 12 months.

I rang them last week to cancel my movies subscription. The discount deal they offered me basically means I keep the movies but don't pay for them for 3 months. So I said "ok thanks". Still ringing up again in September to cancel it again though. smile

Incidentally, if you have an Android phone, there's an app called "weQ4U" which basically dials most premium numbers for free. They also queue for you and call you back. Maybe there's a similar one for iphones I don't know but I use it a lot.

It took me 20 minutes the other night to get through to cancellations.

We were getting fed up with the constant letters about price increases here and there.

Amazingly they have dropped our monthly DD for 18 months from £71 to £49.

Just had a letter this morning telling me that Sky are not increasing the subscriptions costs this morning.
This was also included:

By "cooling off" do they mean pester you into submission?

Last time I cancelled they called me back and offered me everything including movies and sport for free for six months. Took it as it would have been rude not to but I put a note in the diary to make sure that I remember to cancel 30 days before the time was up.

I did as well biggrin

Happy with my Humax YouView box now.

It's worth it so the mrs has her own box and doesn't record her crap on mine

Interesting. I'm planning to cancel this month as I've realised that the vast majority of the programs I watch are on free to air channels or can be sourced elsewhere. Whilst I like the Sky interface and the on demand functionality is also very good, it just isn't worth the £35 a month subscription.

I plan to go down the Humax Freesat route as an alternative to retaining Sky+ functionality as I refuse to pay £10 a month to use a box I already own!

Another Murdoch refusnik here happy with his Humax freesat box.

I seem to recall I also had difficulty extricating myself from their clutches. I think i just cancelled the DD and emailed them.

I called and cancelled, pretty hassle free. I did have to block the various numbers they pester you from to re-join. The marketing post eventually stops after 2 years or so.

I was on the basic TV package as of this morning at £21.50 per month. Had a look at the planner and realised everything I had recorded and set to record was on the free to air channels so I'm paying for Sky's 400-channel crap-o-rama for nothing each month.

Called them to cancel about an hour ago. They offered me £10 off for a year so I'm down to £11.50 per month with the basic crap channels and importantly the recording functions which I would otherwise have to lash out £100+ to replace with a Freeview+ box.

I'm happy with a £120 saving for the sake of a phone call. Probably will bite the bullet and cancel the whole lot when the discount expires.

SKY does seem to be getting worse. I have to ask myself, is it worth the subscription for the yearly Game of Thrones, Da Vinci's Demons, Walking Dead, Wheeler Dealers etc. when I end up buying the box sets anyway!

Also - SKY Movies - I am sure there used to be 2-3 new movies a week. This seems to have trickled down to one, and they're usually crap anyway!

There are times (more often than not) when I channel surf, and everything I click on, it's adverts! SO it's a double whammy for us, and win-win for SKY - we pay monthly subs, yet we're still carpet-bombed with 5-7 minute advert segments! Bargain!

I called them and cancelled within 5 minutes. The person said "We can offer ... " and I just "no thank you" quite a few times and all was good.

Service due to be stopped on August 14th. Let's see how many letters / calls I get after that ...
