I think we read different papers; and forget Oscar nominations as the mark of a decent film.

I just went to the page about reception, and it got mostly very approving remarks, the big critics loved it. Internal awards ceremonies are the best way of exemplifying excellence, though they are not perfect

And don't forget Warhorse shown the other week was not a premiere, it has already been shown on TV so the figure for that repeat would have been lower.

The LWB Ur wasn't the best rally car by a long mark, but I still think it looks the best.
confused Best for what? It was pretty good at winning rallies, and world rally championships – what else do you want?

I agree it looks the best though.

Are you being obtuse?

Once the competition caught up, the Ur Quattro LWB was surpassed and Audi had to come up with ever more extreme versions to keep up which culminated in the rather bonkers Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2. This was demonstrably more capable in every respect compared to the original, therefore "better". Also the reason Audi had to evolve the Ur Quattro LWB was because it was getting beaten by 'better' cars. If it had remained the 'best' car they wouldn't have needed to bother, would they.

The fact that the original won more rallies and WRCs doesn't mean it was the better car, it just means it was at the right place at the right time and had less competition.

5.4million BBC1 November 16th 2014, which is still 2 million short of what Top Gear on BBC2 pulled in.

Strange thread, I came looking for chatter about horsepower and found only horses.

I must have slipped into a parallel dimension....... frown

The first five words of your post reinforce my argument. Every dog has its day.

By that argument, the Mk1 Escort is the best rally car.

Sorry, may I just make one point which jarred a tad7 during an otherwise excellent programme, May talking about army soldiers whilst footage of Royal Marines was being shown.

Thanks, as you were, carry on men.

By whom ? It's a travesty of an absolutely brilliant stage play of the same name which deserved every plaudit . Most critics panned the film - and against my better judgement I still what to see it. WW1 lite for kids who like horses.
Agreed! It was awful!

clockwork cupcake - sorry I am not being obtuse either, but you seem to be arguing the quattro was best becasue nothing else was as good....well....yes

That's why it was the best.

It was a game changer. It's not that everything else was st...its all there was. And then it moved everything on.

I find you're argument very difficult to understand.

Not at all. It was a response to an earlier exchange with someone else who said the Ur Quattro wasn't the best Quattro and Yertis said it was because it won the most rallies and WRCs of the Quattros. I just countered that the Sport Quattro S1 E2 was the pinnacle of the Quattros and hence was "best" in the sense of fastest and most capable.

Anyway, surely "nothing else as good" is a good definition of "best"? biggrin

And I simply argued that, for a while, it was.

Anyway I'm off to bed. beer
