So will Boyle be sacked for pocketing £17.50 for selling scrap copper?

In the late 80's, I worked for an engineering company. I arrived one morning for the day shift only to find two foundrymen already there - apparently since 7 a.m.

They had been caught by a security officer burning electrical wire for the copper, £60 worth. They were hauled in front of an engineering manager who sacked them on the spot, in fact he considered handing them over to the police.

Chris was sacked. I wonder if that was after a series of offences or instant dismissal for gross misconduct?

I've had the odd beer on the job. Although the fact I'm a designer and occasionally work from home i can't really sack myself. Worst thing that could happen is the odd spillage.

Doubt it's the first time he'd done it but he was stupid even doing it considering they employ a health and safety bloke on site.
Even more stupid when you consider there was a film crew on site

Doubt Boyle will ever get sacked. I reckon Terry could walk in on Boyle giving Lyndsay a bit of how's your father and probably pat him on the back.

Anybody catch this last night?

Interesting insight into Terry's personal life regards his father, must be tough being so close but yet seemingly so far.

Two yards next door to each other and he had only seen his Dad three times in eighteen years - very sad indeed!

His daughter and the other large mess in the office are a real nasty pair, only items missing were the cigarette in hand, curlers in hair, and Nora Batty stockings and slippers.

Boyle will always be a let down, for the simple fact that everyone mollycoddles him. He should have got knocked spark out when he decided to bite the hand that feeds him ( copper and moped incidents)

I was quite shocked looking at the takings in the cafe, how do they manage to live? Unless it's some ruse for HMRC....

As for recycling, I saw more of the cars being scrapped then being stripped for parts, surely that doesn't make business sense?

Agree about the daughter and the swamp monster. Not just Boyle that's unemployable anywhere else!!

I like the fact the X5 is his but he drives around in the shed.

Seems a very driven workaholic. One of the main problems is the calibre of staff you end up with to do that type of job and the problems that involves. Reminds me of running the hand car wash business and the unreliablity and stupidity of some staff never failed to surprise.

I'm amazed at the amount of staff!

My local scrappy only has a few lads running the place! although I bet they don't get through as many cars.

also who scraps a 35k mile rover 25? surely it would of been better on ebay with a no reserve auction?

I don't normally like all the 'reality' stuff but I look forward to the next ep paperbagboxedin

£3 for a bag of grit salt is pretty cheap

My former work used to sell it for £8.99 a bag and that was about 5 years ago

The large monster in the office - "I'm not gettin' naked."

Phew! Thank dog for that

When speaking to customers, Boyle's telephone manner left a lot to be desired. "Hiya love!"phonenono

I know this program is based on the real business that exists in Bolton known as Metro Salvage and is filmed on location but some of the discussion here suggests that people think that this is real people in a similar way as if Coronation Street was a real place and Ken Barlow was a real person.

In the average workplace nothing happens from one place to the next but over a period of time, interesting stories come out. The producers re-produce these stories and condense them into a week of filming.

Proves the old saying, you never see a poor scrap dealer........... Program lost me after the first few, the focus shifted more towards the people than the business. No more please.

A lot of staff must be 15+ and a lot of cash sales - looks like fun
