I'm enjoying the slowness of the series although the other half is starting to get bored. Mike was my favourite character in BB so I'm looking forward to seeing more on his back story.

Should I have recognised the bloke who turned up at Mike's door?
Mike used to be a cop in a different county - so I am assuming it's an old colleague of his.
Probably. I think I might be trying too hard to tie every detail into BB

He didn't did he? I thought he knew Mike who worked for him as a PI.

And Mike worked for Gus by BB as security.
Saul said he "knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy.", which is vague enough to be a complete lie. I don't think we can say for certain.

Quote from my mate : With Breaking Bad we were all desperate to know where it ends. With BCS we all want to know when it's going to start

I'm enjoying it but the slow pace sends my missus into a catatonic state so when the credits roll I have to give a one minute summary of the last half hour otherwise the next episode will be a complete mystery to her rolleyes

I really would like to watch this show in chunks. This week's cliff hanger was annoying.

I really enjoy the pacing of it tbh. For anyone annoyed by the slowness this article explains far better than I could why I loved the old lady taking 86 seconds to reach the sofa.

It's hard to imagine Gus doing business with Saul unless you disregard his established characterisation - i.e. that he (by Saul's own words) has been in the business of meth for 20 years, a very careful and considered businessman, hiding in plain sight. Walt needed Saul largely because he was an amateur at the start... "you two suck at peddling meth".

Also it seemed like Saul didn't know Mike was directly working with Gus, the "I know a guy who knows a guy, who knows a guy" I think was genuine. Mike's interactions with Gus heavily implied that their relationship was a secret from Saul.

A lot of what I think sustained BB was the interplay between Walt and Jesse. Jesse was undoubtedly the beating heart of the show, particularly as Walt became less and less sympathetic. I find the relationship between Saul and Mike amusing, but not particularly resonant. Obviously things will develop but as yet whilst I'm enjoying the slow burning and assuredness of the show I have to say I'd find it hard to recommend as a standalone watch.

Totally agreed. I think 'assuredness' is the perfect way to describe it - and that's not a bad thing at all.

It's very difficult not to let the 'art' or the storyline of this type of series to be dictated by the economics and culture of the way the US series work.

Too many times there are pilots which have to cram in extraordinary events to get the green light for a season, and seasons which are 2/3 written and sometimes half filmed before the creators know that the viewing figures will be enough to allow a second season.

BCS is different as it doesn't have to pander to any of these extraneous forces.

I noticed that Jimmy had been paying attention to the old lady's ramblings...I love the pace of this, really relaxing to watch.

The Cliff hanger was perfect, just enough to keep you interested in what was a very slow episode. I think we've all become accustomed to watching 4/5/6 episodes at a time, damn the internet.

Going off on a tangent regarding your username, but I've been watching Oz recently, an excellent series and well worth another watch.

That's the annoying part. I'm so used to thinking brilliant go make a sandwich and watch the next episode straight after. This waiting st ain't for me lol.

It's funny I started rewatching Oz at the beginning of the year. I forgot how good it was. Grim but good.

I think 'bingewatching' is going to make it's way into the OED very soon (if it's not already).
