The ship would start to move, much like it did though? not very fast I'll admit but it would move?
It would depend on the current in the Ocean. The parachutes would make fk all difference

Did anyone stick with this to the end? I did, it's one of the funniest shows I've seen, my particular high light was when they turned the ship into a sail boat with the 3 parachutes.

It's like a big fk you to everything you learned in school
Yep - just watched the last two episodes last night.

I think that the bashers in this thread are being a wee bit disingenuous maybe? They're trashing it, and articulating the bleedin' obvious - that it wouldn't even come within a million miles of winning an Oscar - but secretly loving it I think, heheheh...

As a man myself (well, last time I checked) and with a personality that likes A) 1980's TV action shows, B) anything that represents 'boys own' fun, and C) loves cars, machines, and most of the things that PH stands for - I LOVED it! biggrin

It's been a brilliantly refreshing adventure, in the same way that many good old TV shows used to be, no?

It's a bit like The A-Team, Knight Rider, Airwolf etc. used to be - just with a big boat instead! It contained all the requisite ingredients - a square-jawed hero leader, a vehicle, weapons, some explosions and fighting (although not really enough), some nice dollies, some hairy perilous situations that ended up all ok, and a bit of 'love and life' messages.

Seriously, what wasn't to like? I think the bashers have all grown way too old way too quickly!

If you didn't like this, then I bet you didn't like Back to the Future etc. etc.

Anyway I thought it was great fun. But then again, I am also DYING to see Season 4 of 'Strike Back' as well! It's TV innit - it's meant to be a fun, brainless adventure. If you want visceral intellectualism - then go read some Tolstoy and Dostoyevski, you bores...

biggrin

I loved Strike Back, I'm well aware of the suspension of disbelief but there's that then there's what's required for this show

I don't mind brain numbing action. I used to love Ultimate Force for example. There's just something about this show that's a step too far

I quite enjoyed it, in a brain-out switch-off-thinking-about-it-too-closely kind of way.

I'll get my coat.....

There are some Germans who would disagree with you http://www.skysails.info/english/

The lack of an emergency generator on a warship however rofl It is just about plausible that they would loose main propulsion, although the whole engineering team should get a bking for letting it happen, but the emergency DG's are run on entirely different cooling & fuel circuits for precisely this reason.

There would also be a couple of portable gennys on-board with more than enough power to run a small fridge, or worse case stick it in the ships freezer, which presumably kept down to tempreture since the crew is not shown subsisting on canned food and fish in this epposode.

Still, that's a bit different than a parachute though

It was a bit yes, those were all fun when I was 12-15 years old, they are utter st now. But TLS was aimed at a more mature audience (judging by the violence/swearing/time slot) but still assumed the viewer was 12-15.

It was utter cheesy corny st with unbelievable plots, cartoon goodies and baddies., zero tension, shyte acting, and an awful script.

US TV at its worst IMHO, but then Michael Bay is generally cack

Anyone keeping up with this? Season 3 just started in the US. I quite like it as light hearted entertainment.

And have upped the budget considerably! Good cheesy nonsense, but I like it.

Mate and I have been watching it on Amazon. Jayne Cobb on an Arleigh Burke destroyer, what's not to like?

Up to S3 so far, it's not high art, but enjoyable enough.
