Really liked the house but felt they ruined it a little by just bringing their old furniture into it. I'm not saying they needed ultra-modern furniture but their dark-wood-athon did not look nice in the new house.
Agree with previous posters who mentioned the glass covering part of the central courtyard. It was shown in the plans and missing at the end. Probably realised that it was pointless and decided to do without.
I watched again on 4OD yesterday as I missed the glass part when watching live. They wanted the glass to provide a sheltered area for her exotic plants. It would never have worked in my eyes as there was still too much area that would be exposed to the elements.Agree with previous posters who mentioned the glass covering part of the central courtyard. I loved the look of the stone BUT, as mentioned above, you could not see close enough to see how good it was.

I could see close enough to see it was a shower of st!!Something so prominent on the building would have been worth employing the services of a mason/brickie.
I'm all for people having a go but they need to realise where their 'talent' ends.

I completed my self build in April. There was absolutely no way I was going to do the stone facades as they are so fundamental to the whole look of the building.
Just caught up on this. Stunning.
Yes, the stonework wasn't great. The cladding around one of the window reveals could have done with some trimming to achieve a straight edge. So what.
He's a doer not a buyer, they're obviously not too fussed about cash or worried about resale.
He's built his home, how he wants, with mates, and is mortgage free with considerable savings as he enters retirement.
The dynamic between the pair of them was uncannily similar to that I have with my better half - we're just doing a refurb now, I'm doing as much as I can even though the guys we've got in could do it better and faster, and I bloody hope I'm in a position to do as he has done in a decade or two...

I wondered about that workshop. I have no experience of it, but if he's building a plane, wouldn't it have been better to have one wide door, rather than two doors that looked like standard single-width ones? Or do planes of that size routinely have wings that are easily attached and detached?

My thoughts too. Or perhaps the workshop is to build it then it'll have the wings attached & hangared elsewhere?Fantastic house, as said already it's a great shame about the new builds next door, that would kill it for me.
I watched the first 3 last night to catch up
cliff top house - nice house, seemingly insane to build in that location, but they did not care, had the money and good luck to them.
Lets hope there is a revisit/catchup in 5 years..
cornwall - too much wood but done on a budget and definitely pregnant at the end...
roundhouse - loved it, mad chap and just the sort that's needed on GD. showed how the Germans lead the world in building kit houses. Shame about the field of houses next door and wonder long before they are surrounded by new houses
This couple are at the GD live show in Birmingham and sure they will be very entertaining.
