Far too many to list but I do think that the 1950s and 1960s was a bit of a Golden Era for classic film themes.

In particular the great blockbuster war movies and iconic westerns from those decades did tend to have very "grand" and expansive scores composed by the likes of Bernard Herman, Elmer Bernstein, Ron Goodwin, Milos Foreman, Enio Morricone, Sergio Leone, Alfred Newman, Maurice Jarre, Michel Le Grande etc

I can never remember the Indian Jones theme as John Williams' themes are quite similar. Whenever I'm trying to think of the Star Wars theme it always ends up as the Superman one instead.

The Harry Potter theme is probably my most memorable one, I love those films!

Well I never realised there was so many. Some of the classics I never even remembered.

Are there any where the film is awful but the theme is brilliant? The majority are excellent films as well.

Here's another, Bridge over the River Kwai.

As I've said many times, I don't like "Where Eagles Dare" as a movie (although others love it).

The music is great, however.

Apart from the Bond films, the tradition of having a song (rather than just an orchestral theme) has fallen out of fashion. In the 1960s it became very popular with some great songs being used as film themes -

"On Days Like These" - Matt Monroe ("The Italian Job")
"The Windmills of Your Mind" - Noel Harrison ("The Thomas Crown Affair")
"Born Free" - Matt Monroe ("Born Free" - of course)
"Un Homme et Une Femme" - Pierre Barouh ("Une Homme et Une Femme" - the film))

Also, sometimes a sung version of a film's orchestral theme would be released - such as Andy William's version of "Love Story" or his version "The Godfather" theme.

That's why I was trying to name composers rather than films - and expand the debate to include films recognised for songs as well as themes.
