The son was useless when they went to demo their sausages at that posh grammar school, bleating on about how he couldn't be expected to have all the figures ready as they'd only found out about the presentation that same day. I'm surprised she didn't deck him in the car park on the way out, while screaming at him:

1. How many different types of sausage do you make? Three? Four? (Six, it turns out)
2. You're the "sales manager" - why don't you know the prices of all six of those products?
3. If the sales manager doesn't know the prices, who the heck (sorry...) does?
4. Why wasn't the daughter (the marketing manager) there ready as backup with the numbers?

You had one job, etc. etc.

Typical of today's attitude to graft i'm afraid.

What an arrogant pseudo toff. Parents had no idea. Daughter way too immature, and Son ....if he'd spend less time in the gym, scowling, puffing himself up for camera and wearing an 11 year olds clothes that were tighter than their balance sheet, he may get somewhere.

Chaps they have done really really well despite appearing to be total dheads. The new company has sold shed loads of sossys and are into Waitrose, Tesco and Asda so someone must have a brain somewhere - I suspect a silent partner / backer who gets involved and the Toffs front it. The show was a pure show for TV.

Her manner might be a bit forthright but she knows what she is talking about, rather more than some posters on here I dare say.

Hope so.

They both needed a proper reality check. "I crashed one new van into our other van! Lols!!!"

I do like Alex in a bit of PVC and leather cloud9

Whilst the editing might be 'choice' and the subjects not media-savvy, that family really didn't come across well from a business/sales viewpoint. Not at all.

But then again, going from zero to £2.5million annual sales is not to be sniffed at.

And the juicier story seemed to be 'What the Dickens happened with the first brand?' that also reached multi-million T/O but left them high & dry?

As for the children - going on the evidence as presented, probably OK as minimum wage broom operatives IF there is constant adult supervision.

As for Alex - yes. Probably. But she'd need to be more drunk than me - and I couldn't afford her bar bills.

It was laughable when they try to introduce an element of peril by saying how poorly the business is performing and that their factory and house are rented and everything will disappear if the business doesn't perform. You can't rent a house like that if you've got no money and you can't run about in a new Disco if you've got no money. These people were never in any danger of losing anything.

But how they managed to get any sales I'll never know. Both of the filmed pitches were a total embarrassment. Even basics like clothing - the wife was wearing a puffer jacket and scarf for the Booths meeting FFS! Daughter saying she was "good at speaking to clients" even though she never spoke to a client - unbelievable.

Wonder what the deal was with the second son - was he not involved in the business? Or was he a sensible chap and therefore not good enough TV-fodder.

2 Companies now - one is a company owned by the 4 kids J.G.R.E . LIMITED - I bet this is a making / selling company, the other company THIRSK FOOD LOGISTICS LIMITED has Panoramic as the ultimate holding company and minus £600k working capital. The parents and one other chap are also directors of the logistics company.

It looks to be in the mucky stuff for just under £1m both companies combined and I bet its not their money at risk!

To be fair, the mother had a bit of a face on her when that conversation was going on, I wondered if it was going to kick off at that point.

Ok sausage episode - what did Alex do?

1, she identified the son and daughter were crap and told them
2, she realised they were using pre mix seasoning and got them to refine the recipe during own mix - do we really think she noticed tthis ?
3, the Morrisons guys preferred the home spice mix but they don't stock it
4, local quality supermarket they can't get to see allows a piss poor pitch for free publicity and "place" an order
5, Tesco renew the contract like they would cancel to be identified as a Heck killer on tv

If (and it's a big if ) Alex sussed they were using pre mix then yes she helped them but Christ the "owners" are experienced and should know where to save £ - I noticed they appointed a PR company last year - I would say they did well with this free publicity.

Cynical? You bet.

That appears to be it - 2 whole episodes (beer and sausages). The BBC really should not have gone to all that trouble.

Nope, 6 programmes in the series: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04grqw4

" 2/6 Alex meets a family of sausage producers whose survival relies heavily on supermarkets. "

Interesting to see that somehow Heck Sausages have got £1M equity funding to expand the business:

http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/business/business-n...

Yorkshire Post said:
Family-run sausage manufacturer Heck Foods has received £1m of growth capital to take the business to the next level.

The Northallerton-based firm received the funding from Panoramic Growth Equity - its first investment in a Yorkshire company.

Heck manufactures two brands of sausage, The Harrogate Sausage Company and the Heck range, for supermarkets including Morrisons and Asda.

The company was founded by Yorkshire farmers Andrew and Debbie Keeble who previously built the premium sausage brand, Debbie and Andrew’s. At its peak, the brand represented 26 per cent of the UK’s premium sausage market. Established in 1999, the business was sold to JJ Tranfield in 2005. The Keebles founded Heck in 2012.

Three of the second generation currently work in the business alongside the couple.

The company, which employs a team of 20, achieved £3m revenues in its first year of operation and has forecast revenues of £6m for the current financial year.

The aim of the funding is to increase sales by building awareness of Heck’s premium sausage brands through enhanced marketing.

Panoramic Partner Stephen Campbell will join Heck’s board. He said: “We share their vision and determination to grow their brand into the UK market leader in its space.”

Mr Keeble, managing director, added: “Panoramic brings a great deal of business experience, connections and financial firepower to the table but we remain in total control of our production process. It was imperative that we were able to work with external investors in that spirit.”
I hope "enhanced marketing" means employing people who know what they are doing instead of the son and daughter.

Well, it does say 6 episodes, but I've tried to find when the next one is on and I can't. It was on Monday at 21:00 but it's now been replaced by a new series.

So, not just 'Traffic Cops' that gets shoved around the schedule willy-nilly then. I wonder if it's a Scottish business, and they' hanging fire to see whether to show it or not. Or maybe she's doing a Phones4U special.
