Alex Polizzi - The Fixer
Discussion
Well...blimey.
Quite a lot wrong there.
1). They say the tea room as it was,was their 'vision' and 'dream'. Well that the sttiest, most half arsed dream I have seen in my life, with its mock Tudor 'wood' st and threadbare carpet.
2). You can run a mediocre/failing business and have it how you like, or you can pander to what your customer wants. If these do not coincide, and a poor GCSE business studies student could have told you that in this case they don't, you pick one and the make peace with your choice.
3). Him. It's entirely possible that it was edited unkindly, but on face value, and that's all we have to go on, he was a lot of the problem. By asking for help and not accepting it, I imagine he was hoping/expecting to be told that he was doing everything right and it was someone/something else's fault that the business was failing. He didn't actually want to change - he still did his books manually for pete's sake. You can't see a disk was his excuse. Very strange. Basically an old school bully, who's aggression has taken him as far as it can for someone with limited acumen. I have instructed SWMBO to remove my testicles and dump me in a canal if I ever speak to her like he spoke to his family!
4). I think the idea of a tea room is twee and outdated anyway (though as a male under 30 I am probably not the target audience) - I know they are no different to a cafe in thought and deed, but hell, there's the power of perception for you.
5). And no, you're not strange, Ms Polizzi is an attractive woman - it's her baring and attitude more than anything IMHO

Very entertaining!
Maybe Ray has a point in losing the essential 'feel' by painting over false timberwork...I know I'd miss it. Poor lamb. At least he got his signs back up - so much better to actually say 'eatery' when all these years I'd assumed a tea shop only sold beverages.
I wonder if he watched the programme?
As for Alex, ding dong!

Everything has already been said about Ray - what a tool/child/bully/idiot.
His reaction to the sew signs was hilarious. I think the fact that they incorporated the teapot into the new, more simple designs was actually very successful. His main objection seemed to be that the words didn't use up all the space on the sign boards. It was quite funny but did make me feel sad for his family.
The new signs he revealed at the end were unbelievable. They looked like something you'd see on the side of a Bedford van.

The Ray signage reminded me of a truck stop at the side of a motorway. Clearly the family don't know how to handle criticism, something I think they may be getting rather a lot of, now the programme has been shown. If Ray lived for another 50 years there would STILL be someone who walks in for the first time and says ' are you that plonker off the telly' I give Ray 3 months before he throws the towel in, I hope the daughter has the brains to take the advice.
Current series was just over a year since she had her boy - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/hotels/ukhotels/...
At the risk of being accused of being a softy.
From discussing the relative merits of the business and praising her talents and abilities, the discussion has inevitably turned to her norks! It's all very PH - only one step away from those heathens on the Top Gear thread...which is more a warning from history/the internet than a discussion
