Why are they referred to as "Geoff Lynn's ELO" by Chris Evans mainly?
He set up the group and is the only constant member.
Right, well I sort of get that but seeing as his demographic will be in their 50's why bother?

They (you) are not that senile that you need reminding who ELO are, like there's another one with another different top dude that set them up.

I am guessing it's a copyright issue as mentioned earlier. Saying that if he set ELO up then why would there be issues?
Some of the former members still tour as ELO. Jeff Lynn was the main guy, so it was probably deemed important to publicise the fact it was the 'real' guy, who wrote the songs, singing the songs. Slade wouldn't be the same without Noddy. Same for ELO.

Wiki says (so it must be true) the ELO name is jointly owned by Jeff Lynn and Bev Bevan, who has toured as ELO II in the past without any involvement from JL. Bloke on the grand piano was Richard Tandy, who's also been in the band for a long time, though I didn't realise it during the gig - probably not quite long enough to be called a constant member of the band though.

ELO without Jeff Lynne were known as ELO Part 2 - released two albums, neither of which were particularly good but live, they were excellent.

I'm not sure of the exact details but there was an almighty bust up in the early 90s between Lynne, Jet Records and the other (then) band members over the name. ELO ceased to be because Lynne didn't want to tour and the others did so they did without him but were prevented from using the name. Hence ELO2. There are some who believe ELO's Zoom album was released just to spite ELO2.

Lynne won the battle a few years back. ELO2 still tour but under the name "The Orchestra" - though I understand that has fizzled out since Kelly Groucutt died.

Bev Bevan developed the distinctive ELO drum sound through double-tracking (I think) and has a gripe that this has been copied without credit.

Behind the fluffy, cuddly exterior is a lot of bile and animosity. I don't think it has ever properly come out and from what I can deduce, is still simmering away.

New gig, though, for R2 "In Concert", not a repeat.

When I were but a lad, the very first gig I ever went to was ELO at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon. Saw them again a few years later at Wembley when they had the flying saucer set. Got tickets this morning for the tour next year. Happy days.

I only caught the last few minutes of it, but the sound quality seemed to be awful, not a patch on the quality of the Hyde Park gig. Or was it just me?

Last night really enjoyed, amazed how he seemed genuinely humble for the audiences appreciation.
Tickets in the bag, cant wait for April.
Hoping for bigger orchestra, more stage room, and to get rid of the ELO halloween pumpkin lights hanging from the ceiling..

I must admit that was my immediate reaction, even run via my hifi it sounded very dull and flat. Wonder if the bandwidth was limited on the RB channel

It did sound a little flat when i watched it on the red button. The sound actually reminded me when i listened to ELO on a crappy Amstrad stereo in the 80s.

Mr Blue Sky is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Ah memories.

One of their gigs which was televised. I was 17 and a bit, had my first little car after passing my test at 17 years and 28 days old - MG Midget and took my girlfriend away to vibrant Milford on Sea (!) where we stayed in a small hotel. It was the first time I had ever been away with a girl on my own (with parents previously). Everything felt new.

We did nice things during the days, and at some point back at the hotel, as we walked past the TV room (yes it was that type of hotel) we spotted that it had an ELO concert just starting. We sat and watched the whole thing with a bunch of other mixed aged people who all seemed to enjoy it. It seemed to go on for ages, but we couldn't tear ourselves away.

Good memories. That concert has been repeated on Sky Arts recently, watched it again with the most recent squeeze. Every time is a good time with that gig. Just music, unique sound, instruments (how many bands used a double bass / cellos) and arrangements for the time, ability, a great set, and no bullst - well maybe the spaceship smile

I read this thread at 6.45pm,clicked the red button and hello ,ELO.

Just a fantastic performance, still on,Telephone Line and Mr Blue Sky seem to be on repeat.

Funnily enough I picked up my ELO greatest CD out of the big box earlier this evening to put into the car,not listened to in a while.
