The guy nicking meat from M&S is so pathetic you sort of feel sorry for him.
I felt very sorry for him, he seemed a nice guy who'd gone off the rails and into the thrall of smack. Hopefully he has stayed off it. A textbook case of starting with a bit of weed, ends up doing anything for a bag of brown. Not saying everybody who smokes the occasional doobie follows this path, but indicative of the seriousness of what can happen.
His honesty was refreshing - "yep, I did it, you've got me bang to rights, no arguments". Meanwhile neck tattoo boy wastes a load of Police time and public money, his brief gets another sharp suit, and in the end coughs for it because he's so obviously guilty

His brother was so obviously guilty until they changed their mind. A textbook case of starting with a bit of weed, ends up doing anything for a bag of brown. Not saying everybody who smokes the occasional doobie follows this path, but indicative of the seriousness of what can happen.

If I was him I'd have gone NG.

Seized under the proceeds of crime act. Unless he could prove it had come from a legit source like a job or a withdrawal from a bank. The onus is on his to prove it.
A mate of mine owes me a couple of hundred quid from a holiday we went on, which I booked on a card for simplicity's sake.If I got "raided" for whatever reason after my friend gave me this cash back, would I get it back with the above explanation? Would it be acceptable to the police to see the same amount being withdrawn from said friends account a few days previous?

Right - I'm not a lawyer. All my knowledge comes from actually dealing with this sort of stuff from the other side of the fence (although I wasn't a drug dealer). They are unlikely to care about £200. I think you have to have over a grand in cash for them to have it away. However it's all relative - £400 in £10 notes for a 16 year old on benefits who's been found with baggies of weed, is different to a middle class middle ages bloke with the same amount of cash. If I got "raided" for whatever reason after my friend gave me this cash back, would I get it back with the above explanation? For most offences they won't care. It would have to be involving a crime which involves either robbing or making money. Proceeds of crime act is really designed to get money back from the more serious offenders, so they can't live it up and be flashy with ill-gotten gains. It's how they take the range rovers and big houses off big time drug dealers.
You are better off asking a Police Officer on here. I'll be completely honest - I've had it threatened a few times (years ago) but it never actually happened. I'm going to assume it's more effort/cost than it's worth unless it's very obvious or a very large sum of money.

I believe seized cash has to go to court to be argued as to why it should be kept so it is a case of whether the court believes it.If I got "raided" for whatever reason after my friend gave me this cash back, would I get it back with the above explanation? although that story might work in stopping coppers seizing it in the first place.
