Thanks to this series I can see why people do no comment interviews !
Yes indeed. The second joker who got 14 years could have done with having a solicitor present, presumably he thought he didn't need to - which goes to show just how deluded he was over the seriousness of the offense. Although I have to say the detail of the second robbery was a bit light, it must have been more serious than the theft of a bag of weed to get a 14 year sentence. FredClogs said:

I thought he did have a solicitor present.Who was the fat old guy sitting next to him if not a solicitor?
I too was surprised at the length of sentences.

Having been on a jury though, the "No Comment" interview is essentially seen as saying "I'm as dodgy as hell so send me down as I likely did what I'm accused of".
I guess the only hope of "no commenting" all the way through is that it never makes it to a court room. If i was on a jury and some random idiot was no commented all the way through I'd be working from the assumption of guilt unless proven otherwise, as why not explain why its all a big misunderstanding
I assume a lot of them only ended up in court in the first place as they ran their mouths during the first interview.

A great advert for why smoking skunk damages your brain. Had to laugh at how stupid the second guy was. Its insulting towards planks of wood to compare him to them.
Great to see nice long sentances though. Good riddance to complete scum.
I'm not sure a 14 year term for stealing skunk at knife point seems reasonable, unless he had a lot of previous or something was missing. I'd thought 14 years was manslaughter / armed (guns) robbery territory. Great to see nice long sentances though. Good riddance to complete scum.

Aggravating circumstances though, had an accomplice and a deadly weapon. That changes the sentencing guidelines, besides probably not his first offence etc Also I think the skunk is a moot point. The victim made an allegation of his phone and money being nicked, also two others were nicked in relation to the offence. The police were on the program saying how nasty these people were, its fair to say that are probably baddies.

True, though beating a pensioner near to death seems to attract a much smaller sentence. Also I think the skunk is a moot point. 17 months for this, for example.

I'd be very surprised if the 14 years was for one offence as described. I'd expect it to be for several offences and I'd imagine he had a raft of previous too, to get that much. The most I've ever had anyone sentenced for was 18 years for attempted murder where a guy stalked his ex partner and slashed her throat.
