our current law system locks up the wrong people are you saying we shouldn't lock anyone up as there's a 1% chance of wrongly convicting somebody?

Based on what we saw there's nothing to reason with. I doubt it's even very difficult to catch these people to tbh

The retired police officer said as much. 'Too many to deal with at once'

Devils adv;

if I sat on embankment and filmed people speeding and then reported it to the police would I be hailed a hero?

I'm surprised no one has considered the blackmail possibilities of this sort of thing

Are you actually comparing speeding with molesting children?

no, I'm just exploring the premise of members of the public playing police

if it was a priority and the public wanted it 3 officers trapping people full time wouldnt cost the world, why don't we ballot our local police force to make it a priority?

Sounds like quite a profitable business based on what the police officer said (hundreds of people) and the fact that people turn up (the idea of the program) and the lengths people will go to to avoid facebook exposure (suicide).

Maybe thats he he affords his equipment wink
It's the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw what looked like a gold Rolex on one of their wrists

Astonishing programme.

I wonder if the longer sentences were a result of his information leading the police to finding something on computers, whereas the suspendeds were those that managed to get home and bleach and burn their laptops, and so could only cough to what he showed up?

When I lived in the US there was a prime time TV show that did exactly this same thing. Can't remember the title, but it was made by the same production team as Cops. Much more professionally produced than these people but just as seedy - and obviously had the collaboration of the cops who'd arrive at the end of the show to collar the perp.

What do the instigators get out of it? In the US, clearly primetime ratings and money

We have community speed watches , so why not let someone else collect evidence for the police in these cases?

Now if the courts find these people not guilty the fact still remains they were having 'mucky' chats with what they think are kids, there sending nude pics to what they believe are kids and they are going to meet what they believe to be kids.

I think if someone you worked with, or taught your child was busted you'd be pretty glad you at least were aware of there desires despite the fact there is no proof they've actually molested anyone so far.

It does, but they've at least stood trial. I understand Stinson posts the videos online before this?

On the whole, what Stinson does is fantastic. I don't think he should post evidence up online though.

It's called "To Catch a Predator" - some episodes are on YouTube. Always ends with "of course you are free to go", the minute they leave the Police have them on the ground with guns at the ready. The irony is that a lot of the men have watched the programme already and know exactly what to expect.

You are chosing to compare it to something so low level its pretty normal for your you, your mates, your neighbours etc to have been caught doing it. If you want to choose a motoring offence then chose drink driving or something else thats likely to see jail time.

Personally i thought what he was doing was great, he's simply gathering evidence to handover to the police.

The biggest benefit of this programme is that it will make hundreds (?... thousands?) of potential offenders think twice before committing similar offences.

It's difficult to argue against what this guy is doing, particularly when the police are currently so short of resources.

Absolutely. He is just evidence gathering for the police. Perhaps they should advise him the most effective way of getting proof rather than just warning him off.
