Watched this programme thinking it would be some pleb with a pitchfork mentality, however for somebody whos had a tough life, abused and been in prison for 10 years, he came across very well. I certainly wouldnt be able to have the same level of self control around these nutters he showed.

Like a previous posted mentioned, it was clear all these guys have serious issues and some were certainly not your average looking 'weirdo'. Even if they werent convicted, it would certainly make them think twice and make others aware of their real thoughts and actions.

Thing that shocked me was the number of these people out there. The policeman saying he had ended up with 3 guys **king off and more trying to join was a real shocker. He summarised by saying there were just to many to catch.

I'm sure that as a result of the programme there will be copycat vigilantes out there and maybe a few more less restrained people, however after seeing these nutters in action, do we really care as long as they are removed from society?

Absolutely. He is just evidence gathering for the police. Perhaps they should advise him the most effective way of getting proof rather than just warning him off.
Yep - I agree, if he can gather evidence to pass to the police - then it is in their interests to ensure that the evidence he collects in the highest quality it can be in order to ensure a conviction.

The part of this I am uncomfortable with is the posting of all the evidence on Facebook etc. It encourages vigilante 'justice' and it's only a matter of time before somebody gets beaten up (or worse) because of a case of mistaken identity or somebody innocent gets caught in the crossfire.

As the poster above stated though - this program going out is a good thing - it may make some people think twice.

The biggest benefit of this programme is that it will make hundreds (?... thousands?) of potential offenders think twice before committing similar offences.

It's difficult to argue against what this guy is doing, particularly when the police are currently so short of resources.
The drive will still be there for them to commit the offences, they'll just be aware of his tactics.

Not a smart move really.

Yeah, I see your point. The urban myth about the paediatrician being beaten up shows the depths some vigilantes' intelligence goes to.

Apparently he made £14,000 in donations to his kickstarter after last night.

He really really needs to upgrade all his equipment apparently.

Watched it last night and was somewhat put off by the police attitude to him, they are all up for people finding evidence on other crimes yet are worried about him screwing up any evidence gathered (which would be none).

CPS looked at the evidence and decided it was patchy is all I can think, with electronic com's particularly texts and email what he said she said is pretty much beyond dispute.

Yeh you can't win on PH. One minute all the powerfully built company directors say they'd beat ten shades of st out of a nonce, then they claim a person exposing the nonce has the real issues and the one sending pictures of his weeping cock is less of a concern. Odd.
I don't think anyone compared levels of concern between the two sides.

I'm already aware there are unsavoury people out there, that forms part of my day job. The new aspect to the documentary and the common thread, to me, was the story around the guy who changed his name to Stinson Hunter.

If the story was as simple as providing evidence to the police this wouldn't have been billed as the biggest documentary of the year. Their methods, motivations and their attempts to garner media attention complicate the picture.

The paediatrician story isn't just an urban myth. It's happened at least once.

Lots of worries about this one. The risk of false positives is one (as he's not just 'handing evidence over', but posting it straight online), but also the risk that the police are investigating a wider ring and this guy goes blundering in targeting one dumb guy, destroying any chance of getting the people who organise and distribute that sort of thing. Publicly broadcasting how you're going about finding these people just teaches them to go elsewhere and be more careful. Someone in my family has worked on this sort of investigation and it's all very grim and needs a lot of support to handle professionally.

A compelling documentary for sure, one I'm going to watch again for the sheer OMG-ness of the nonces as they rolled up at Stinson's house and were rumbled. I wonder how many just get on their toes pronto, realising the game is up, but not giving him the footage he wants? I couldn't quite believe the bloke who sat around sorting out his roll-up and having a chat about it.

What I found most dsturbing was how many of the paedos were prepared to turn up to a Nuneaton council estate and go into an unknown property to meet an underage girl for the first time as if it were the most normal of day to day activities. That made my blood run a little cold.

I can't help but think all this will do is ensure the dirty bds are more careful in what they do now. The entire documentary was like a handbook of things NOT to do if your going to go around noncing.

Using aliases when contacting these girls?

Using a prepaid phone rather than something that's tied to them personally (ie a contract phone)?

Sending photo messages but ensuring their faces aren't included.

Avoiding any invitations to Nuneaton!

and so on and so forth

Better than he comes off from this account from the other side of the story, or indeed from all those racist videos he used to post of him in the Saw mask waving a gollywog around.

"The Daemon Hunter vigilante who targeted Peter in Staffordshire used the slogan "Public against paedos". He pretended to be interested in his target on an adult dating site and they arranged to meet in a branch of Costa coffee. Peter thought he was meeting an 18-year-old, and insists he is not a paedophile or child groomer. Only when he was waiting in the cafe did a text come through saying "she" was 15 and that he immediately got up and left.

It was then that Daemon Hunter accosted him in the street, accused him of trying to meet a 15-year-old for sex, and chased him through town filming him. Peter told the Guardian: "He said: 'I think we need to talk because you're a fking paedophile.' I said: 'What do you mean mate? She's 18, that's what I was told. I've just had a text message up there saying she's 15 and that's why I've walked away.' Next thing I know he got his phone up filming me, calling me a paedophile, asking her age. I was shocked. He started shouting I was a paedophile in the middle of town. I thought 'I am going to get a kicking here' so I just legged it."

Within hours, the vigilante uploaded footage of the sting on to the internet along with Peter's mobile number. That night his phone was jammed with abusive texts and voicemails, which he said included death threats.

So he fled north in his car, only returning when he thought the worst was over. Later, he said his house was hit with bricks and that his wife tried to kill herself with an overdose of pills. He was so scared he was reduced to hiding in a cupboard when the doorbell rang."
