Christ almighty, if you think Hardy is bad, do not listen on to Bridget Christie.

She's trying to be politically topical Miranda Hart, without the delivery. Or humour.

She must have read this thread.

Hi Bridget, do the world a favour & get yersel on the Rainbow Warrior topless shift during happy hour.

Heard her tonight, bloody awful. The bit about Osborne was cringe worthy!

It was dire. I think she was trying to copy Harry Hill (and it isn't even that funny when he does it). From what I could hear, even the audience were unsure about what was going on. It definitely wasn't comedy.

Oh - and Fred MacAulay - your career's over too.

Just when you thought The Now Show couldn't get any worse, it does; some limp Brigstocke facsimile vomiting dire climate bks into a microphone, he even managed a spectacularly unfunny Thatcher gag. They did land a few blows in the direction of the dead tyrant though.

I like Jeremy Hardy. And Jeremy Clarkson. So there.
I prefer Jeremy Hardy to Jeremy Clarkson. I don't always agree with JH but I NEVER agree with JC.

That indeed as pathetic but he sounded too young to be even aware who Thatcher was.

I just heard that Gobste wking on about so called "climate change".

Sick to death of the left liberal bias. Ministry of Truth and all that...

Spoilt my enjoyment of the show.

The Now Show should be re-named the Was show - when it was properly topical & actually funny.

Meanwhile, Bridget Christie continues her Thatcher, Tory, blah blah bah drivel.

However.....

I caught most of Mark Steele's in Town from the Friday pre-midday slot.

He was in Southall & it was really good - topical & funny.

I have to say I have liked all of the shows in that series that I've heard, mainly because he keeps it observational & topical. Politics rarely gets mentioned.

The piece from yesterdays show about the Gurdwara was brilliant.

As you were.

How is that any different from someone like Jo Brand mentioning her husband, or indeed any comedian (straight, gay or otherwise) mentioning their other half? Loads of comedians do it. Just because the marriage is same sex, it doesn't mean every mention of the spouse is gay activism.

Like rehab71 says, Calman has to crowbar in a reference to her 'wife' every other sentence. Even Les Dawson didn't bang on about his wife that much, and he built an act around his.

Speaking of Jo Brand, the way she bangs on about her husband, she's almost like the 70s men complaining about their wives/mother in laws.

Just heard Brigstocke on the Naff Show, banging on about feminism & how he is one. Hey Marcus, whose knickers are you trying to get into this week?

& apparently UKIP are a fantasy construct. So clearly the people on the UKIP threads (1400 posts and counting.) are living in a world of make believe with little fluffy clouds. rolleyes

I really hope that they do quite well in the election. Not because I'm necessarily a supporter but because it might get Marcus (CLIMATE CHANGE IS KILLING POLAR BEARS! I'VE SEEN IT WITH MY OWN EYES!) Brigstocke to think about what the electorate actually want instead of what him and his Islington luvvie mates think is good for them.

I'm in two minds about the songs on The Now Show...

They are clever, and I can appriciate they are going to sound a bit 'samey' as its not really about the song - more about the lyrics... And they are knocked together in a very short space of time.

... I was quite annoyed to wake up humming 'im going to have to learn how to play MineCraft' this morning though frown

Topical Comedy shows such as "The Now Show" and "The News Quiz", tend to be anti-Government by their nature. Hence the Tory bashing, get over it and/or switch off/put a CD on etc. You probably enjoyed it when Blair/Brown were in Number 10?

Comedy on R4 is an important testing ground for new comedy. It is far cheaper to commission a few radio shows than TV.

Still some good stuff to be heard, I rather enjoy "Claire in the Community", "Bleak Expectations" and "The Unbelievable Truth" some won't but you will find more comedy there than just about anywhere else. Have a dip in 4 Extra for classic shows like Dads Army and Yes Minister.

A big thumbs up to the BBC from me.
