After being away all week, I caught up with the last episode this morning. A wonderful end to the series. Without giving away any spoilers, Toby Jones really is an amazing actor with a wonderfully-expressive face. You can really see the emotions running through his mind. Sophie Thompson was great last night too.

And although she's hardly said a word, I've developed a bit of a soft spot for Varde...

Presumably Mr. Crook will be in the running for some industry gong - written, starring and directed by isn't bad at all, given the quality.

This and 'Carshare' have been the highpoint of comedy on telly this past year (with a nod to 'Toast' too).

A couple of laugh out loud moments in the final episode ...(Russell and Hugh at the rally laughlaugh), allied to some glorious bittersweet moments- Lance at the pub and the <no spoilers> end scene. All made this an excellent ending to a wonderful series. If this programme doesn't rake in some serious 'award-age' in the next few months I will be very surprised. And we have the Christmas Special to look forward to.

Pleased I found this thread because for me Detectorists is my little slice of tv heaven.Beautifully shot easy going gentle comedy.Loved the episode where the mayor asked if somebody could find his chain and we got to enjoy a little bit of two other characters.Really hoping there will be at least a third series.

The Christmas special will be on in a few weeks. Can't wait. It would be nice to see Lance get the recognition he deserves but with the possibility of Andy going to Africa, surely a third series might prove tricky?

The show is very niche, but this is a good thing it make each moment brilliantly, not some churned out canned laughter like Mrs Brown's boys.

I don't think there will be a third series I think he will write something else more mainstream.

My guess is that a third series will open in the same way, both back detecting in the fields.

The second series opening ignored the enormity of pregnancy, becoming a parent, gaining a degree etc

I mentioned earlier, I thoroughly recommend Johnny Flynn's serious (Scrotal Recall) as it is very funny.
