Anyone else disappointed?
Just watched it, and yes disappointed.

Partly because there was no Rachael Stirling in it. frown

It was enjoyable, but not on par with the usual.

I'm hoping they do go for a third series.

I liked it. I am pleased they did not take the haunting too far as it would have ruined it for me.

I was expecting Hugh to find that pouch of gold coins that Lance buried before it finished.

Inspired by this thread, I asked for the DVD of the first series for Christmas and absolutely love it! So thank you PH thumbup

I echo all the other comments about the script, acting, characters, subtle comedy, scenery, etc. Oh, and Rachael Stirling deserves a mention too cloud9

My OH likes it too so we have just bought series 2. Really looking forward to it once we finish watching W1A.

I got all excited then as I hoped it was an announcement for a new series.

I must say this passed me by when it was on TV. Earlier on in the week we'd run out of recorded stuff to watch so I was hunting around for something interesting and humorous to watch so gave the first episode of this an airing. We're hooked now and I must say it's been brilliant so far. Can't wait to see the rest of it smile

It's a wonderful charming and warm series. The characters are believable with hidden depth and there is a wonderful feel of happiness with tinges of sadness as well throughout. Beautifully played and the theme tune sets it off perfectly.

The ending? Well to be honest it very nearly had me in tears.

Reminds me to re-watch from the beginning (a long time since I've seen S01). Fabulous TV smile

I'm still hoping to find out why a small village on the Essex/Suffolk border is inhabited by people from the West country....

This is a great comedy moment along with the whole 2 series to be honest. It's subtle but very funny and I'd love to hear news of a third series

Oddly when people try and do the Suffolk accent it usually finishes up as "pirate"/Norfolk/Cornish.

Sorry, didn't mean to get anyones hopes up smile

I haven't even started series 2 yet but it seems like a third series should be in order! As with many great comedy series though it should go no further than that wink

I'm an occasional detectorist and over on the metal detector forums they absolutely hate this series. Me? I thought it was absolutely brilliant, an absolute gem. I even went out and bought the boxset, a pity the Christmas episode wasn't on it, but I have carefully preserved that on my Sky Box.

That surprised me as I am sure I'd originally read that it had been quite well received amongst detectorists.

Thanks for your email and your kind words about the tv series.
I have to admit that, in a rather cowardly fashion, I have been keeping an eye on the forum but I’ve never actually posted.
I wanted to avoid getting personally involved in a discussion but I couldn’t resist having a look at what those in the metal detecting community were saying. Sorry if that’s a bit creepy.

I’ve been blown away by the response Detectorists has got on the forum and I’d really like to thank people who’ve posted positive feedback.

I know when the show was first announced a few people were understandably nervous that it would be an ill-researched parody of the hobby. Where people are passionate about something they have a right to be protective of it too.
But, as I said early on, I only ever intended it to be an affectionate and realistic (almost) look at a fascinating pastime.

I’m thrilled that metal detectorists themselves gave the show a chance, enjoyed it and could relate to the situations and characters.
Even though the show had to appeal to a wide audience, it’s been the views of the detectorists that have been most interesting to me.

I wanted to make the detecting bits of the film as accurate as possible but without getting bogged down in details that would bore non-hobbyists.

I too, wince every time I see Lance throw down his CTX at the end of episode 1. But it was the only take we had from that angle. I hadn’t noticed Toby mistreating his machine until I got into the editing suite otherwise I would have had strong words.

We heard this week that the BBC would like a second series next year which is fantastic news.

I’ll get writing and I hope you enjoy the second series as much as you’ve seemed to enjoy the first.

I’ll continue, if you don’t mind, not to post on the forum. (You might want to set up a separate, hidden forum where you don’t feel you’re being watched).
But please feel free to post any or all of this letter on the site.

Thanks again for your support.

Mackenzie Crook.
Knew I'd read something on this forum re positive feedback from detectorists.
