Oh bugger. Interesting though.
Am I right in thinking the TR7 is actually owned by Mckenzie? - I thought it was looking extra sharp.
The car in the show bugs me…..anyone who goes to the lengths it takes to get a stbox TR7 looking so sharp for every scene in the show would have to be a serious car nut. They certainly wouldn’t use it as a daily, not garage it overnight and chuck all their detectorist paraphernalia it the boot. Lance doesn’t treat it the way a car nut would treat his pride and joy.Am I right in thinking the TR7 is actually owned by Mckenzie? - I thought it was looking extra sharp.

Remember it’s made for a wide viewing audience rather than classic car enthusiasts
They obviously wanted a distinctive car that suited Lance’s character. As a viewer who actually knows a bit about the car you just have to wash over the details about what it’s really like running an old TR7 as a daily.
Basically, try not to worry about it

I think the car is a very clever choice. It's a 'nearly' car, in the same way Lance is a 'nearly' man. They obviously wanted a distinctive car that suited Lance’s character. Agreed, it’s a great choice and there was clearly a lot of thought went into it. I also like the way the car is almost part of the supporting cast as it’s often there in the background as a sort of scene prop, and Lance even has framed photos of it on his walls.I always appreciate it when programme makers really make the effort with a car choice and they did a perfect job here. Makes a change from the usual clueless default choice of an old Volvo estate to signify an interesting character.

Yes. It is.It is a very good choice - not just the make but the colour too. If you look, rarely do you see anything else yellow in the scenes it appears in.
For those that have not watched the previous series - when he's talking about the car in the mirror in an imaginary conversation.. and then imagines talking to someone about their Delorean
..Also when it started running roughly in one of the previous xmas specials.
I think its a fair guess that the Delorean is Lance's dream car. (another prefect 'almost' car)
Been thinking about the TR7 this morning while putting the decorations back up in the loft and trying to sort the fecking mess out up there. Yes I’m having an exciting day.
Anyway Lance is of an age where the TR7 would have seemed like a state of the art rocket ship to a young schoolboy when it came out, all wedge shaped and pop up headlamps and so on. Definitely the sort of car he could have always wanted then finally bought when funds allowed.
Another poster mentioned the colour and how it is often the only yellow thing in the shot, an excellent point that I hadn’t thought of. To that I’d add that it’s (nearly) always sunny when they film Detectorists, it adds to the gentle feel good atmosphere of the show and the bright yellow old car only adds to this. In fact the more I think about it the more I like it.
Apologies for the random TR7 based brain farts; this is what happens on the odd occasions when I have time to overthink things

I was glad to see the special announced, but am another who found it somehow a little disjointed. Still a load better than a lot of the dross on our screens though.
Nice article on the BBC Culture pages about the series' popularity around the world: https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20221216-detec...
And, amongst the many DMDC items you can buy on Redbubble, a Lance, Andy, and the TR7 duvet cover!

I'd go for it being a Testarossa! 10 points for any other Detectorists nerd who can tell me the basis of my theory
We were away over Christmas so finally sat down to watch this last night.
We were a bit apprehensive as we had been so looking forward to this and didn't want to be disappointed.
Needn't have worried, as it was by far the best thing we've watched in some time.
Loved the way Lance changed, found the whole journey back on the train and the failed phone calls surprisingly stressful and actually got quite angry with them.
Need to watch it again now as there was so much going on in the background and so many little one liners to be savored........... and the photography is just superb.
Started watching series 1 again last night. Haven’t seen it since it first aired, and I’m amazed at how I couldn’t remember the story lines or much of the subtle humour. It made me laugh out loud in enjoyment.
I suspect my memory loss is something that will develop in the future, but for now at least I have some enjoyment all over again.
I didn’t know that the guy that sang the theme tune Johnny Flynn actually sings it in the show in ep 3 at the pub folk night. That was cool.
And Aimee-Ffion is so sweet. The pub scene when Andy’s Mrs meets her was hilarious.
Series 1 seems to be a bit more raw as well, more swearing and suggestiveness. I guess they toned it down a bit in future series as I can’t remember it being like this in later series.
Can see me binging the rest of the series on iPlayer. I need cheering up, it’s lovely to see the English countryside in summer. Beautiful programme.
