They probably wouldn't make a film with leading actors as ugly as murray, akroyd, and ramis nowadays.
It's a shame really - I think using "normal looking" actors was one of the things that endeared many earlier films like Ghostbusters, Alien, Jaws etc and made them so much more believable (granted 4 guys running around with particle accelerators catching ghosts isn't that believable - but hey).

It's interesting reading some of the comments around the casting for Alien (near the bottom of this section). IMO they are bang on.

Say what you like, Murray is apparently very sexy to the opposite sex. Funny gets ythe fanny.

this is PH, so lets talk about Ecto1

Ghostbusters was made in 1984, so the Caddy was only 25 years old

a 1990 station wagon just won't be as cool
maybe a big Buick Roadmaster

Absolutely. I can't watch those csi forensic usa shows because the actors look like cardboard cut outs. They are generic people with no discernible characteristics. Dan Akroyd doesn't look or sound like anyone else and that's the point, ditto murray.

I'm betting they'll use something like a Humvee H2.

It'll probably be sponsored by Ford or Dodge so all the cars will be generic crap.

I like the idea of seeing a Ghostbusters reboot but i fear the reality will be anything but an utter CGI fest drivel.

So this isn't some kind of sick wind up, there really is going to be a new Ghostbusters with an all female cast.

Maybe their first mission will be to try and catch the spirit of the ghost busters franchise - after it's brutal murder at the hands of Paul Feig.

It will flop like a pair of saggy elderly balls. Look at the mess they made of Robocop, it had none of the original social commentary, violence or OTT humour that made the original excellent.

Any reboots / remakes will be watered down drivel to try and keep all the parties happy.

My Personal list of hated remakes
Robocop
Godzilla
Planet of the Apes
Psycho
The Pink Panther
Going to have to disagree with you on Godzilla and the Apes films. Rest I'll agree with
Add the recent Star Trek films to that list for me.

They were ok - but IMO they should have done a clean reboot instead of being tied to the past.

I hated the Wrath of Khan references shoehorned into the second one (e.g. "Khaaaaaaaaan!") - they just felt far too forced.

Also - can anyone name a movie involving an all female lead 'team' that was highly successful or well rated? I can't think of many films that feature an all female lead team (especially not in the scifi/action genre), but of those few I can, they were considered average at best. Some that spring to mind:

Charlie's Angels 1 & 2
Sucker Punch
.....erm
Kill Bill vol 1?

I may be wrong (my memory is fuzzy) but wasn't that movie a lone female lead rather than an all female "team".

Some of the most memorable movies in history have had female leads e.g. Alien(s) - but non chick flick female "team" movies are very thin on the ground - and those that have been made have generally been poor (from both a critical and commercial viewpoint).

They may be 'ok' but the genre of the new films is completely changed IMO. Which for me is a shame because I find fictitious action films generally boring, and so much stuff is made in that style today. Strikes me as if it's designed for an instant gratification audience with a short attention span. Older Star Trek was definitely sci-fi, not action.

Yep - can't argue with that.
