ive read some of the comments and I've no idea why she replied to some. However, the new GB is one of the most racist, sexist family film I've seen recently. So I am confused. You play race jokes and sexist ones but get pissed when its returned.

At around 8-9 minutes in - they totally nail what is wrong today.

Sometimes a movie can be made as much by what is not said as what is said.

Film makers today seem so scared of losing the audiences attention - that they feel they have to fill every moment of a film with dialogue, over the top action, stupid gags etc........basically 'noise'.

The sexism is what fked me off the most. A dashing receptionist that's male is portrayed as a fking retard. Someone couldn't be that stupid without being retarded, but the "jokes" wouldn't work I guess. So what we have now is role reversal from decades ago that wasn't funny. I thought girl power st was meant to be better than all that.
I think personally they have played the supposed "misogyny" angle heavily to try and disguise they have made a mediocre film.

The big issue with the all female Ghostbusters crew is that it is very gimmicky. As one reviewer commented they have made a Bridesmaids sequel masquerading as a Ghostbusters reboot. For a hen party there is a reason for it all to be women, why in this case?. To update it for the 2010s they could have made one or two of the team women and made it more realistic.

Secondly if you are going to go all female why pick those particular four actresses?. Female leads in more action based movies are hardly a novelty by now. Usually they look like Mila Jovovich, Scarlett Johanson, Charlize Theron etc however.

I quite enjoyed Robocop. Different enough to not simply be a bad version of the original, I think they did a good job of it - I was very pleasantly suprised given how much I like the Verhoeven original.

Would you class new Star Trek as a remake? If so that's how to re start a franchise despite its issues it was great movie imo.

Dawn of the Dead, The Ring, King Kong, The Departed, True Grit, Ocean's 11 and Deathrace were all good remakes (not sure if Heat counts since it's the same director), although admittedly they are far outweighed by the bad

However bad it is, however trite, patronising, tedious and incompetent, I'll see your GB remake and raise you Neon Demon. All in, everything I own. Neon Demon is complete guff. I'd almost recommend watching it just to see how dreadful it is. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but let's just say Keanu Reeves, a mountain lion, an eye ball and some neon triangles. fk me. What a waste of my time that was.

what a load of rubbish. jokes are unfunny but mature women drinking wine liked them.

special effects great, story had meat, but the fat one and blonde one sucked life out of it.

3/10

I enjoyed Star Trek, though I wouldn't bother watching it again. More of a reboot, not retelling the same story in isolation....though the sequel was a remake of the sequel! And for that one, even thought I did enjoy the story of the remake, I definitely prefer the original. biggrin

As I typed, I thought of two possibles, True Grit and Ladykillers, both by the Coens, both not as great as the originals, but still very good films with their own vibe. I wanted to see what others said.
Dawn, heck yeah, that is a very skilful remake and yet also it's own vibe. King Kong ditto, perhaps even better...noy sure. Can't comment on t'others.

I agree with this. Although JJ Abrams does a fine job with the constant re-boots/re-imaginings of movie franchises, I find that most of his stuff are watch once only affairs. I cannot quite put my finger on why that is - the movies are certainly technically superior to the older versions, but almost always feel a little too forced, trying too hard to please the fans, while creating nothing really new, just re-hashes/facsimiles of the originals. Even if the acting is arguably superior as well as the effects, they do not seem to posses the same 'soul'

I have often seen the words Abrams and 'Visionary' together in the same sentence, but I disagree with this. A true visionary goes for something completely fresh and new, never or rarely seen before. Abrams is the polar opposite of this, surely? He is just tweaking very old formulas of well loved franchises that are guaranteed good BO takings.

As for this Ghostbusters, you know it's bad when Sony tried to imply that those who do not like it are misogynistic woman haters!

The Fly and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. But just over 20 a bit.

The Fly is actually 30 years old this year, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is not that far behind!

And those two are actually good examples of films that smash the original to pieces.

The Maltese Falcon being another.

Looking at the box office mojo figures - it doesn't look good

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=main&amp...

Ranks #201 in terms of opening day gross lying behind such classics as Hannah Montana The Movie and The Last Airbender.

It's currently lying at #1310 in terms of domestic gross. I know it still has a litle time left in theatres - but to put it into context, the original Ghostbusters lies at #34 in terms of domestic gross (inflation adjusted).

It's taken less than half of it's production budget so far.....and something tells me it won't be a movie that has staying power and encourages repeat viewings. I suspect it's takings will drop off quite quickly.

It is nice to see that a completely original film can capture that kind of audience. The studios are terrified of brand new IPs with no obvious link to anything, but it seems to be working out quite nicely in animation. Illumination are smashing it, particularly with their own built from the ground franchises, ironically.
