My point was that the female lead had elements of Venkman in the drooly/slimy area. Even though it's done for comic effect I think it does a good job of explaining why the remake failed and why the original worked so well. Amazing the difference editing and soundtrack have on a scene.

Watched a bit of this on Ch4 last night.
Terrible film as predicted/expected.
The characters in the remake were interchangeable whereas the original you had 4 distinct characters: Egon - the geek, Ray - big kid at heart, Peter - cynic, Winston - down-at-earth
The comedy tone was all wrong and poorly conceived and scripted - done by committee to please Sony execs. You can't blame the gender reversal - you could easily put Will Ferrell, et al doing dumbed down comedy. And that's the problem. The original was gave you something implausible in a believable world, characters played straight which gives you its charm and arguably its cult status in the same way BTTF works because of the tone of the comedy.
