GHOSTBUSTERS 3

...You can't blame the gender reversal - you could easily put Will Ferrell, et al doing dumbed down comedy. And that's the problem.
...
That's the bit that confuses me about this whole sexism thing surrounding this film - it could've easily been an Adam Sandler film the usual guys he does all his films with, just a whacky, zany comedy with constant ad libs....
The Mr Plinkett review explains it much better, starts at about 37:30.
(talking about Adam Sandler, I have heard the ending of this Ghostbusters is identical to Pixels, but I haven't seen that)
I tink it's the plinkett review that takes one scene and edits it to show what could have been done, edits it like the old film was edited, and the difference is marked.
Feig was wrong for this, as were probably some of the cast, not seen them in much so difficult to say, but the fat one seems to always be the same, like a chris farley, GB isn't that sort of humour. Of course one of the biggest issues is the ad-libbing. Ad-libbing, using impro in scenes is very popular with a lot of yank directors, but the impro has to stay in character, it's not just another SNL sketch. Part of why it all felt so, 'meh.'

Yep the Mr Plinkett review helps shows how many a movie has been saved in the editing, not that this movie could have probably been saved, but that scene could have been. Sits at 74% on Rotten Tomatoes. I think there are too many critics out there who are either scared of giving certain films a bad review for fear of being branded, or are more interested in what the message is as opposed to how good it is.
Mainstream critics cannot be trusted anymore, best avoid their reviews.chris watton said:

If anyone is looking for an alternative by people who understand film (which excludes most YouTube "reviewers"). I have found the Red Letter Media guys to be very good. You have to get used to their rather unique style though and they don't review all movies or even most of them. It's a movie in the style of its stars and director- if you watch Bridesmaids or Spy you'll see a similar style of humour. The trouble is they didn't take into account that the audience for a Ghostbusters film would be made up not only of fans of the actors but also of fans of the original movie who may not have seen any of the actors other films. As a result a large proportion of the audience probably weren't expecting such a radical departure from the style of the first two films.
The original film was a big part of my childhood so I wasn't keen on the remake. It wasn't that funny or scary and in my view the cast have made better movies. My wife on the other hand can't remember the original but is a fan of Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, and she enjoyed it (whilst agreeing that they've all made better).

they used to be rathr prolific. But some point over a year ago they became rather tired of the movie machine. THey tend to review a large number of films now in joined reviews that cover a load of films.I am a massive GB fan/geek and I dont mind it, it isnt nowhere near as good as the original, even separating my nostalgia and fanboyism.
But it has its moments, I like the Holzman character and there is a great line where the ghost ends up the train to Queens and Patty says "Thats the third scariest thing on that train"
But by and large it falls a bit flat, the male bimbo thing was risible and overplayed and the ghosts didnt look that good.

All aboard for round two...or is that 4?

I was ready for that to be a bullst one, (like the thundercats and other trailers on yt)...but it's real!....mixed feelings now....
Harold Ramis is gone, the 'head' of the team is no more. Personally I'd ot want to see s new person shoehorned into the team. What's the reason we want this? The old team, plus Dana, Rick Moranis and the receptionist.
Already has a teaser trailer, 18 months really doesn't seem like a long time from announcements to hitting cinemas

It will absolutely be better than the 2016 abomination, but the original was a real lightning in a bottle moment that they will never fully recapture no matter who's on board

Agree, even Ghostsbusters 2 wasn't a patch on the first one despite having the same cast. Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
