I just found it all a bit... boring. And empty, so empty. Like mentioned earlier, you can see the similarities with Evolution which was originally going to be Ghostbusters 3 and that film felt like it captured that feeling of Ghostbusters far better. It was funnier and far more happened in that movie whereas this was basically just Memberberries: the Movie.

The tiny marshmellow men made no sense in the context of this movie, what is their reasoning for existing? I know why he exists in the original movie (because Ray thinks him into existence as the form of 'the destructor'), but I have no idea why packets of marshmellows would come to life in this movie. It doesn't make any sense other than "remember Stay Puft? I 'member".

BLu ray arrived this morning so finally got a chance to watch it. On the whole, a fun watch which felt like it had some care put into it. Yes the ending was cheesy, but I can't deny it made me smile. Admittedly there was a lack of new ghosts, and some scenes were less a homage and more a straight reshoot, but a solid watch nonetheless.

One thing that did bug me though - how did she not believe in ghosts? Yes 1984 was before the days of Youtube and camera phones, but I'm pretty sure if New York had been overrun we'd still be talking about now. They did the same thing in Ghostbusters 2 and it made no sense then.

A lot of movies have the people "forgetting" thing though. They usually cover it up with a throw away line like "I thought that was just a hoax" or they pretend the government covered it up.

It's basically a magic reset button so they can reboot but still have some references to the previous films.

Humans have an ability to ignore phenomena and just get on with life like there's no problem, there's a title for it, can#t recall.

Flying Saucers buzzed Washington in '52, but it's all just ancient history now.

got a bit dusty in my front room, the 4k picture and Atmos audio properly stellar, and the credit run extra's perfect.....

Utterly perfect, from a very happy GB fan...

Aye, it's like how everyone forgot about 9/11, or Chernobyl...

Finally got round to this and thought it was excellent. The lead kid who played Phoebe was great. The last part felt a bit rushed but no complaints really.

Also finally got to watch it yesterday.

Structurally it's a mess, the final act is severely rushed. But - I got goosebumps when Phoebe fired the proton pack for the first time, and I'm not ashamed to say that the ending with all 4 OG Ghostbusters joining together made me well up a bit, even though I'd found out before about it.

It did leave me wishing Gozer had featured more, although she (?) was one-note in the original film so it's a minor gripe. If I'm honest I probably just wanted to see more of Olivia Wilde. yum

I felt good and caught myself grinning after watching it, and after 2 years of a pandemic - that'll do for me. fk the critics, it wasn't trying to be Citizen Kane or some cutting edge social commentary, no one wanted that st anyway.

Also to echo the above - the actress who played Phoebe was excellent.

As a massive Ghostbusters fan, I was looking forward to watching this. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as the original films, so had relatively low expectations....and I thought it was 'ok'!

I did enjoy all the links to the first couple of films but the more I think about it, I wish they had come up with an original storyline, as appose to just repeating the first film. I liked the actors and didn't mind the fact the leads were kids...but perhaps the film should of been about introducing a new team of Ghostbusters, lead by Ray, Peter and financed by Winston. I guess that'll be the storyline of the next film so I guess I can forgive the lack of originality.

Egon's ghost looked mega though. Awesome CGI.

I watched it last night on Blu Ray. It was OK, not as good as I'd hoped it would be. A few amusing lines, no major laughs. Re-hashed ghosts, and what on earth were the little marshmallow people all about? Marshmallow man was multiple times bigger than the buildings. I liked the town setting, and the lead girl and teenage Michael Macintyre worked well. On the positive side I'm pretty sure that this has been tailed off to allow a sequel/sequels. The line from the older Ghostbuster about Ecto1 'lets get you cleaned up then' at the end for EG. Hopefully then the new leads can mature in to their roles, and they can be brave enough to steer it away from being a pastiche. 6/10, wanted it to be an 8 or a 9.

The little Marshmallow men and Walmart were obviously product placement / merchandising opportunities, but the way they were done was very clunky, with Rudd’s character randomly walking into one.

And I will echo exactly what you said because I couldn’t have put it better myself.

Just a really enjoyable, well made, entertaining film.

Just watched this.

Firstly I'm a fan of the originals, watched countless times and can quote lines.

Agree with some of Mark Kermode's criticism: at least half the film felt like nostalgia porn rather than nods to the previous films. It made the film feel disjointed it felt like a Jason Reitman film (especially the first half) trying to shoehorn into the GB universe and some of the humour went corny and squirmish in the second half. Saying that, I really enjoyed the ending.

If it was me I would have this made into a Goonies/GB sequel mashup with an original baddie. The female remake should have been a franchise set in a different location.

RIP Ivan Reitman. Thanks for all the laughter.

Back in 1984, I pretty much wore out the grooves of my Ray Parker jnr 7" of "Ghostbusters".

Forgive me if I'm a little fking tired of every joyless red letter media wannabee fk telling me why I should be crying like a little bh of this latest terrible travesty to the Ghostbusters universe.

For the avoidance of doubt, let me tell you to fk off, and when you get to where you're fking off to, then fk off some more.

Seriously, go to your physician, psychiatrist or holistic practitioner and demand some mood meds. If you're critically picking over the bones of this, then, unfortunately, you're emotionally stunted, and have deep lying issues to work through.

I'm done with your relentless negativity, take a plane to Donetsk, then get some reality.
