20 years ago I would have said Tom Hanks after his string of comedies and rom coms.
I was the same , watched most of his 80's stuff as it came out then saw him as the prison guard in Green Mile, that totally blew me away

One actor who seems to be stuck in one role, at least for the last decade or two, Morgan Freeman. Not that his old wise man role is bad in any way.
Look for Vincent the vegetable vampire on youtube.

He might surprise us with a master class in acting one day, I always suspect these big stars who always do crap films are really capable given the chance.

Do think he has to though, I was amazed to read the other day he's one of the most 'bankable' stars in Hollywood - his films are pretty terrible, but they ALWAYS make money, not massive margins, but they've always profitable - a pretty rare thing it seems.

yep, surprised it didn't come up earlier
Seriously? He's been in some pretty dire films, but his performances in Leaving Las Vegas, Raising Arizona, and Air Con, as examples off the top of my head, are hardly similar to each other.

Ahem hehe

Although, I shall admit that I have never seen Morgan Freeman as a vegetarian vampire, and didn't necessarily want to either.

He's awful. If I appeared in 70 films over 25 years speaking at random volumes I reckon I'd have a pretty good chance of winning an Oscar too.

edit: that jokes stolen from Community, the same episode also features this rather amazing impersonation of Cage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpBJISaI1PE

He can actually do serious, Punch Runk Love fr example, but he seems content on easy pay days instead

Adam Sandler is apparently the worst-value actor in hollywood based on his fee vs the movie's gross takings but I guess the rest of the film is usually pretty cheap.

Simon Pegg. Love his movies but it always seems the same character to me.

Reign Over Me was a very good performance as well.

"I don't need to talk about her or look at pictures. 'Cause the truth is, a lot of times, I see her, on the street. I walk down the street, I see her in someone else's face. Clearer than any of the pictures you carry with you. I get that you're in pain, but you've got each other. You got each other! And I'm the one who's gotta see her and the girls all the time. Everywhere I go! I even see the dog. That's how fked up I still am! I look at a German shepherd, I see our goddamn poodle."

Maybe, but when someone is a master of all trades, the results are epic. Im a big fan of Tom Hardy - love the way he is different in most of his films, not just in character, but in voice, and even physical size. Last film of his i saw was "Locke" - a soft spoken welsh man, miles away from roles like Bane, or the cage fighter in Warrior, or the hillbilly in Lawless.
Good call!

I watched Locke the other week, the premise shouldn't work as a film but I found it really watchable.

I think Sandler is another range of '1'. I thought Reign over me was massively overrated and limited.

John Le Mesurier (aka Sgt Wilson Dads Army) and a great British jobbing actor.
Said he tried to play one character throughout his career and he preferred it if they also wore the same suit.

I'd agree with that, Bronson is another example of his ability to play different characters.
